Winter Woods Thanksgiving for As You See It Challenges

Happy Thanksgiving weekend, my fellow Canadians! I hope you're looking forward to an extra day off and a delicious turkey dinner with family! I, on the other hand am in between daughter visits, so it's just Ken and I, so I think we'll probably get one of those turkey roasts so we can enjoy the delicious dinner without having to deal with the turkey carcass afterward.

But it's also As You See It Challenge Friday and this week's challenge is a Theme Challenge concocted by yours truly. I wanted a theme that was a bit more universal than thanksgiving, since that's just happening in Canada this weekend, and fall would be great, but that's just happening in the Northern Hemisphere, but trees! Now, that works anywhere you happen to be, and can still be a great Thanksgiving and Fall theme if you are a Canadian in the Northern Hemisphere!

I looked over all my possible tree stamps and decided to use my Winter Woods stamp set from last year's Holiday catalogue and this year's Annual Catalogue! And I used the Come To Gather Designer Series Paper as a background with all its beautiful rich colours, which doubled as colours that I used to sponge my main image panel with.

  • I just love how the end project just seems to glow! That's a product of the colours I chose. Here is my palette:

  • Once the main image panel was sponged with the colours I wanted, I stamped the main image from the Winter Woods stamp set using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. I had to add an extra tree on each end to finish the row and fit to the cardstock length.
  • I glued this piece to a backing of Merry Merlot and added a small piece of 1/4" Copper Trim using some strong adhesive on the back of the matte piece to adhere it.
  • I stamped the sentiment onto a scrap piece of the same DSP that forms the background, again with some Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. I mounted that on a piece of the same DSP, just flipped over for safe keeping.
  • I put the image panel off center on the card front to best showcase the background DSP. It also gave room for the sentiment to fit on the bottom left.
  • I used some retired Share What You Love Artisan Pearls in the trees to look like sparkling stars or lights, just adding to the glowing effect.

Be thinking about November 1 and your first opportunity to order this Christmas time is Here Medley! It is sooo gorgeous you're going to want it. It's wonderful for your holiday card making and decor and you can even get a lovely bracelet for yourself or to use as a gift for someone. It's while supplies last once Nov. 1 rolls around, so you won't want to wait too long! I'm going to be playing with my set this weekend, so I'll hopefully have some samples to show you on Monday!

Also, I have my new Stampin' Trimmer in my hot little hands, and I'm very impressed with it! It has several improvements over the old model. I will do a review for you next week. Stay tuned for the Customer Release Date. As soon as we hear, I'll let you know!!

  2. Thank you, Joanne! That's the first time I've tried those colours together. I love the way Terracotta Tile fits in there! It's just myself and hubby for Thanksgiving dinner so we got a turkey roast rather than a whole turkey, but it will be good, then no bones to deal with!!

  3. This is a beauty Heather and you're right, it really does seem to glow! I love the way you used the colours from the designer paper to create your inked background panel, and it sets those trees off beautifully! Vicky x
