Sadly, I had two of the more sombre cards to make over the past weekend as I learned that my cousin had passed away and also that a friend had had a heart attack. I wanted to use the Forever Fern bundle, which enchants me, but I wanted to go with a different colour palette than is usual for the foliage. I chose Blackberry Bliss for the card base and then began to look around for some Designer Series Paper that would go with it. I found some in one of the designs of the Artistry Blooms DSP that combines watercolour shades of Rich Razzleberry, Magenta Madness, Melon Mambo and Gorgeous Grape. After that, it was just letting myself go with the stamps and dies working with those colours and I came up with two unique cards:
The card on your left uses foliage die cut from Blushing Bride, Blackberry Bliss and Highland Heather, using dies from the Forever Flourishing Die set, simply arranged on the beautiful DSP and glued down carefully. I was going to add a lot more die cut foliage, but it simply detracted from a card that looked a lot better with a simple design.
The sentiment, from the Good Morning Magnolia stamp set, is stamped in a muted Blackberry Bliss (stamped off) and die cut using the Beautiful Boughs dies.
Some Champagne Rhinestones nestled amongst the leaves gives an added hidden beauty to the card front.
For the Sympathy card, I also started with the Blackberry Bliss base and the same design of the Artistry Blooms DSP for a background. Then I made my own strip of DSP using the Forever Fern DistINKtive stamps on Whisper White and Blackberry Bliss and Blushing Bride ink. I made liberal use of the dots stamp as well. Backed with a slightly larger Blackberry Bliss strip, it looks quite effective.
Then I stamped and die cut several pairs of foliage using the same ink colours and different foliage stamps from the Forever Fern stamp set. I'm very impressed with how well the DistINKtive technology works with this one. Along with a couple of vellum die cuts and a Blackberry Bliss die cut, they were added to one of the Gold Loops that are part of the same suite and added the loop to the card front. The sentiment is from the Prized Peony stamp set, stamped right on to the DSP.
Turns out I really love this combination of colours with this set and will probably make some cards that are not so sombre with it as well, but hopefully these colours will help to uphold the friends they are sent to.

Also, it's almost time for my free monthly newsletter and the free photo tutorial that I offer subscribers each month. This month will feature a tutorial for this card:
It's made with the Nothing Better Than stamp set and features a simple shaker card with a cookie jar made with the Jar Punch and the Mason Jar Shaker Domes. The In Good Taste Designer Series Paper in the background looks like a kitchen counter and backsplash.
