Well, it's July!! Yesterday was Canada Day and a dismal affair it was, too, with rain all day, no parties or fireworks or kids visiting. Just Ken and I having pancakes for breakfast, hotdogs and potato salad for supper and watching Disney+ on TV! How did you celebrate? But it's Friday and another As You See It Challenge and Design Team Member Jane has come up with a Theme Challenge that has us all dreaming of better times and places:
Can you vacation where you live? Depending on the state of COVID 19, you may or may not be able to. Where I live you can now travel around our province with some special precautions taken. But as soon as they opened up the campgrounds, they booked up within minutes, so we were out of luck. We're hoping to be able to see our grandkids at different times this summer, all things staying well, and it's a good thing, as I am having serious grandkid withdrawal symptoms right now! I hope you are able to get away, but if not, what vacation will you take when things get back to normal? No harm in a little dreaming! I thought about the sea, sailing and adventure - the sailboat image from the Sailing Home stamp set substituting for our new one person kayaks that we just got. (We couldn't seem to get along paddling our 2 person kayak "Dunkin", so we sold it to save our marriage!) Here's my card:
- I'm so enamoured with the World of Good Specialty Designer Series Paper, that it was the first thing I thought of when I saw the theme of vacations: maps, compasses, routes! So this turned out to be a very masculine themed card, which is ironic, because men seldom consult maps when they drive, especially on vacations!
- Ken and I once had a little sailboat, but she turned out to be a 10 foot long money pit, so we eventually sold her, but sailing was exhilarating and the epitome of vacation freedom, I thought! I stamped the sailboat image from Sailing Home right on some of the World of Good DSP and thought I'd add some Shimmery White Embossing Paste to make white caps and clouds and to add a little texture! I like the way it soaked up some of the colour from the Misty Moonlight ink I stamped the sailboat in.
- I love the look of sailor's knots and used the Braided Linen Trim to create one for the card. It adds to the masculine appeal I think.
- See that compass, from Sailing Home? It is not embossed in Gold Embossing Powder. Seeing as how the World of Good Specialty DSP has Brass Foil highlights, I felt as though I needed some Brass Embossing Powder to complement it, but of course, we don't have any. However, I've created different effects before with embossing powders by mixing them, and I thought I would try to create brass. I mixed Gold and Copper Stampin' Emboss Powders (Copper is retired now) in a 1:1 ratio and I think I got a pretty good approximation to Brass. The image is the compass from Sailing Home.
- The sentiment is from the Beautiful World Stamp set that goes with the World of Good suite. I stamped it in Misty Moonlight and fussy cut it, then sponged some Misty Moonlight around the cut edges to give it more definition.
