Calming Camellia for As You See It Challenges

calming camellias for aysi 1

Welcome to another As You See It Challenge Friday, where I share my Design Team samples with you. This week, the challenge, courtesy of team member Jan, is asking us to share what our favourite technique is via a Fill In The Blank Challenge. Here's the Challenge Banner:

challenge #268

I thought about what constitutes a technique, and in my mind, it's some process outside of normal card making that adds an extra touch or effect to a card. One technique that I love the look of and that I always have fun doing is the Whitewash Technique. I thought I'd try the technique out using the Calming Camellia stamp set that is a special gift for Hosts whose Stampin' Up! parties reach sales of $375 or more during Sale-A-Bration, which ends at the end of this month!!

  • The process works like this: You stamp your image in Versamark ink on Crumb Cake (or kraft paper). You emboss it with White Embossing powder which is available in the Basics Assortment of Stampin' Emboss Powders, and heat set it with the Heat Tool.
  • You then take the areas that are free of embossing powder and paint them in using a Water Painter and a watery mix of Whisper White Craft Ink.
  • After that coat has thoroughly dried, use a Blender Pen to add some ink from Stampin' Up! Classic Ink Pads or the Refills with a little bit squeezed into the lids. Add it to the areas that you have covered with the white kraft ink. It will blend with the white kraft in to make a lovely pastel shade. That's all there is to it!!
  • The base of this card is Basic Black cardstock, on which I added some Flirty Flamingo Simply Marbleous Designer Series Paper. Basic Black cardstock provides a backing for my front panel. The sentiment and swirl are from the Calming Camellia set as well.

  1. Love this, Heather! It really produced a softer color look, and color on Crumb Cake is one of my favorite combos! I've not heard of doing this exact thing - I've only ever colored on heat embossing with Blends. Can't wait to try this!

  3. This stamp is the perfect way to showcase this technique Heather! I love the softness it lends to the camellia and it's a great way to change things up using Crumb Cake for a base. So pretty!

  5. Thanks, everyone! This has been my favourite technique for years, just because of the soft look it produces on Crumb Cake, although you can do it on other colours as well. It's just particularly effective on Crumb Cake.
