Speed Stamping in Purple for As You See It Challenges

Have I mentioned before how much I dislike being timed at something I do! It's hard to keep panic from setting in, no matter how unimportant the task or how well-prepared you are. But that's what I had to do again this week, when I came up with my sample for As You See It Challenges #077, The challenge was Speed Stamping (Under 10 minutes) in shades of purple!

I wasn't keeping a close watch on the time and when I finally glanced at my watch there were only seconds left, so I wrapped it up in 9:54 min, with some of my plan left undone.  I used the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches this week:

The card is an odd size - 9" x 4".  It will fit into a business envelope. But it's a fun layout with plenty of room for interpretation!  Here's how I interpreted it:

  • I wanted to make one of the inlaid butterfly images that I've really admired when I've seen them online. It turns out that it is quite easy to do. I positioned my die on the Perfect Plum panel and die cut it using the Big Shot. I then used the Dryer Sheet technique to get all the little bits out of the Butterfly Thinlits die and the butterfly. I then added adhesive to the back of the Perfect Plum panel all around the edge of the butterfly-shaped hole and attached a piece of Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper to the back. With tiny dots of Liquid Multipurpose Glue on the back of the butterfly, I glued it into the hole out of which it was die cut.
  • I used the Large Scallop Edgelit to make the scallop edging, but I had to cut it in two stages, thanks to the unusual length of the card.
  • The sentiment from Butterfly Basics was die cut using one of the Apothecary Accents framelits.  I was going to die cut another of the same shape from Blackberry Bliss cardstock and use it to matte the sentiment, but time ran out and I just had to adhere it to the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • The thick twine and Blackberry Bliss button are one of the newest Sale-A-Bration Rewards, the In Colour Accessory Pack, available during the month of March, free with every $60 purchase! I only had time for a faux bow with the twine.  If I would have had more time, I would have tied a proper bow.
This is your chance to get your hands sweaty and your heart beating! Why not give Speed Stamping a try? I don' know if you'll be glad you did or not, but the adrenalin rush is totally worth it!
