Vaccine Booked and Hello Chick at the End of the Pandemic

 I just booked my COVID-19 Vaccine for Monday morning! I'm excited but I have mixed feelings about the end of the pandemic and getting back to normal. I have to admit to a bit of anxiety about interacting socially again, wearing make-up and uncomfortable dressy clothes, keeping my house super clean so I can have people over. In thinking about my feelings, and about how much I've socially regressed over the past year, I had an idea for a card using the "wild" chicken from the Hey, Chick stamp set and the Here's a Card sentiment stamp set.

• When they finally say it's safe to come out of the house without all the extra precautions, I know I'm going to be just like this chicken: Wild hair, wild eyes, cautiously looking around everywhere to make sure it's safe, then inching out one step at a time into the unknown.
• The sentiment, from Here's a Card, sums it up rather well, I think.
• On the Gray Granite card base, I have a background from the retiring World of Good DSP which, in this case, is supposed to represent the untidy house!
• Then, to paint a really bad picture, the ladybugs trinkets on the outside of the Mossy Meadow "house", with door and windows made with the Stitched Rectangle Dies and the Layering Circles Dies.
• The crazy chicken was stamped with Memento ink and coloured in with the Soft Suede, Crumb Cake and Cinnamon Cider Stampin' Blends Combo packs.

Hey Chick Double Z Fold Card

 

I've been dying to try a Double Z Fold card with my Hey Chick Bundle so I worked on one over the weekend. I was kicking myself for not getting the Hey Birthday Chick Bundle too, because then i would have had fence dies as well, but I managed well with the Pinewood Planks 3D Embossing Folder and the Banners Pick a Punch to make the fence posts, and I ended up with a sturdier construction with that.

This will be completed today in my Monday Morning Live Facebook Live video at 11 am PDT on my Playing with Papercrafting Facebook page, so you're welcome to pop by and watch how to make a double z fold card. It's more simple than it looks.

             

• The base is a piece of Just Jade cardstock cut at 4 1/4" x 11" and scored at 2 3/4" and 5 1/2" along the 11" side. It is folded back then forward again, using the bone folder to burnish each score line, and keeping the sides even.
• The other z fold is a piece of Crumb Cake cut at 1 1/2" x 11" and scored at 5 1/2", folded in half and spritzed lightly with water and run through the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine in the Pinewood Planks 3D Embossing Folder. Then it is cut back to 1" and the 1/2" left over piece is used to make the fence posts, while the 1" piece is scored additionally at 2 3/4" along the 11" side. I cut another piece of the embossed Crumb Cake at 5/8" x 3 3/4" and score at 1/2" from either end to use as a middle mounting piece.
• The sky is a piece of Balmy Blue cardstock, cut at 2 1/2" x 11" and scored at 2 3/4" and 5 1/2" along the 11" side. It is folded in the z fold and then the bottom is cut in one long concave arch from one corner to the next, which creates two hills on the opened card.
• To glue it into the card, I cut up the 5 1/2" score line and glued in the two pieces separately, so that they didn't pull away from the edges too much when the card was bent.
• The Banners Pick a Punch was used to create the fence posts by inserting the end of the 1/2" Crumb Cake strip into it and punching the end into a point, then cutting it at 2 1/2" long and repeating for 4 more posts.

• From a piece of Garden Green cardstock 5 1/2" x 4 1/4", backed with an Adhesive Sheet, I die cut 5 corn stocks and 10 husks for the corn cobs.
• From a piece of Daffodil Delight cardstock 2 3/4" x 6", backed with an Adhesive Sheet as well, I die cut a chicken coop, 12 corn cobs and one die of grain.
• From a scrap piece of Early Espresso I die cut a stump and from some leftover Crumb Cake I die cut the sign.
• I stamped all three chickens and the walking egg stamp on Basic White cardstock, coloured them in with Stampin' Blends Markers, then die cut them.
• Then everything was assembled as shown above and in the video.
