Tropical Chic for As You See It Challenges

It's a quick post today as I prepare for a big craft fair today at George Pringle Elementary School.

It's one that I do each November and I hope you will join me there today from 1 pm to 7:30 pm if you live in the Okanagan area. There are 60 vendors and it's a good opportunity to get some Christmas gifts. I'll be featuring some cards and novelties as well as a few of my retired products and featuring some classes coming up in the near future, such as my Advent Calendar class to make this kit:

I hope to see you there!

Meantime, it's an As You See It new Challenge Friday, and today, it's a colour challenge, splashed together by Design Team member, Jane Knudsen:

Here's my sample:

  • I was definitely thinking tropical with these pure colours, so I got out my long neglected, but definitely loved Tropical Chic stamp set and inked up those pure primary type colours to create a jungle-like background.
  • I added a little Crumb Cake as my neutral in the mix to soften the effect of those high-powered greens and blues.
  • The Noble Peacock Specialty DSP and Foil Sheets both have Blueberry Bushel sheets in them so I made use of them for some shine on my card.
  • And to balance that, some Braided Linen Trim for the tropical rustic look.
  • The little bird with the bright colours isn't a parrot, but he's from the Free as a Bird stamp set and could be a bird from the tropics. Have you ever noticed how brightly coloured their plumage is compared to most North American birds? I stamped him in Blueberry Bushel and used a Blender Pen to move the ink from the outline to the middle as well as add other colours to the bird's breast.

It's the last day for this sale and my order will go in at 9 pm. So make sure I get your's by 8 pm tonight! (Friday, November 22) or go to my On-Line Store and place an order yourself! It's a great way to stock up just before Christmas!

Tropical Chic Quadriptych for As You See It Challenge #189!

What a whirlwind week! It's already Friday and I'm just catching my breath now. I got home from Orlando on Monday morning after a day and a half of travel, dead tired and sick, but I had to get right to work on my Technique night classes and my Dashing Deer Discovery Night. I thought my laryngitis was improving but last night it felt like someone was grabbing me by the throat in a vice grip! So uncomfortable! Still, I had to get the posts up for As You See It Challenge #189 both here and on the Challenge website, so it was another late night for me.

The challenge banner this week features a sketch containing four panels in the background. I learned that a piece of art divided into 3 panels is called a triptych and one divided into four is a quadriptych or a tetraptych. The name of this weeks' challenge is, appropriately, Quadriptych. Here's the sketch:

And I envisioned some emboss resist for the four panels instead of using DSP. After being in semi-tropical Orlando for the previous week, I got out the Tropical Chic Stamp Set and here's what ensued:

  • The leaves are embossed with White Stampin' Emboss Powder and then the 4 colours sponged over them are Blushing Bride, Lemon Lime Twist, Granny Apple Green and Shaded Spruce.
  • I kept the boundaries between them sharp by using strips of washy tape to protect the edges and make sure that they are straight.
  • The background DSP is from the Tropical Escape 6" x 6 " Designer Series Paper on a Shaded Spruce card base.
  • The label is die cut from Whisper White using the Stitched Labels Framelits and then stamped with images and sentiments from the Tropical Chic Stamp Set. It's mounted using Stampin' Dimensionals.
Pop on over to the As You See It Challenge Website and see what the other Design Team Members did with the same sketch. Play along with us if you can over the weekend! I'd love to chat longer, but I was seriously exhausted and really needed SLEEEEP!!
