I haven't done any Graduation cards yet and that time of year is upon us: diplomas, mortar boards, prom dresses, tuxes and the works. While I don't have anyone that I know getting their tassel flipped this year, I do love making these cards, using dramatic rich colours and cute accessories!
I roughly based my layout on the Mojo Monday sketch this week, but I totally missed the horizontal element and turn my circles into mortar board and diploma so don't know if I will actually enter the challenge or not, but here's the sketch for your benefit:
What were your high school colours? Mine were red and black, but if it was up to me to choose, I would have gone with maroon, black, and gold, or in Stampin' Up! lingo: Rich Razzleberry, Basic Black, and Gold!
Academic regalia is so cool. It originated back in the Medieval times when one's apparel distinguished scholars from clerics and one university from another. The long gowns worn were probably a necessity for warmth as many of the buildings were unheated and the caps and hoods kept tonsured heads warm as well.
Here's a closer look at my card:
- Do you recognize that "Class of" image? It was part of a single stamp from the Occasions 2015 catalogue. I knew I'd never be able to sell it with the 2015 date on it, so I cut off the 2015 to leave 'Class of' and now I think I'll keep it and use it for Grad cards each year and just add the numbers with a stamp set or framelits.
- Here, I die cut the 16 using the Large Number Framelits. There was no apostrophe, but I was clever!! I partially die cut the 2 using just the circle on the beginning of the 2 and trimmed it down to be the tail of an apostrophe. The numbers are die cut from Gold Glimmer Paper.
- I used the second smallest Square Framelit (the Squares Collection Framelits are retiring to make room for a new and improved version with narrower borders!) to make the mortar board. I took some retired Gold Cording Trim from the Holiday Catalogue to make a tassel for it.
- The diploma is a small rectangle of Whisper White card stock, rolled up and tied with some Rich Razzleberry Cotton Ribbon. I used some Tear and Tape to hold it together.
