Fall Corner Garden for As You See It Challenges

Every Friday, I come up with a card for As You See It Challenges and this week is no exception.

This one is for Amanda's  great sketch for As You See It Challenge #056:

I was a bit stumped at first, but then I came up with the idea of slicing a stamped image into strips and adding them to the card base, but I wanted to get the tone variation from the sketch in the picture as well and I had trouble picturing how to do that. Here's how I solved the problem:

• The only image that was large enough to work was Corner Garden stamp set and I have been dying to try my Blendies on that one.  I wanted to use fall colours. Don't even attempt this card if you have limited time.  It takes forever to colour it using the Blendies, but it was fun.  You just have to patiently work away at it.
• I wanted to slice it into 3/4" x 4" slices but I realized that I would have a lot of tiny unattached pieces if I did that.  I also wanted to have different coloured background on the slices to match the sketch.  So I fussy cut all around the edges of the stamped and coloured image (Another step requiring infinite patience - and I'm not saying I have that. 'Nuff said!).  I applied adhesive to the back of the image and glued down five 3/4" x 4" strips of different coloured cardstock to the back. Then I cut between the strips of cardstock for the 5 panels you see here.  The colours I used were Crushed Curry, Calypso Coral, Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla and Pumpkin Pie, though you can't see much of that one since the bottom of the image is pretty solid.
• The five panels were glued onto the card base.  I added the top and bottom first, then centered the middle Cherry Cobbler panel between them.  Then I centered the second and fourth panels in the middle of the first and third and the third and fifth.  Have I confused you yet?  It just makes it easier to make sure everything is evenly spaced when you do it like that and you avoid having to measure everything.
• The sentiment is from Really Good Greetings and I stamped it with Cherry Cobbler ink on Very Vanilla and used the 2 1/2" Circle punch to punch it out.  I added some Crushed Curry Chevron Ribbon as an accent.

Stamping by Candlelight for The Paper Players

Sounds romantic doesn't it?  But not very practical and really hard on the eyes!  Yes, we had a power outage last night - a big one and a long one.  The power went out for 22,000 of us at around 6:30 pm and didn't come back on until about 3:30 am.  And being a night owl stamper and blog writer, that spelled disaster for me.  With no internet connection, I couldn't even use my laptop or tablet.  But I had my card all ready for assembly and I was able to do that with candles and a flashlight. Thankfully, it is a really shiny card.  I took photos but was unable to upload and edit them.  So I'm doing it all this morning!

It was fun playing with all sorts of lighting last night:

Here is my card with flash and exposure adjustment:

• I love the Specialty Designer Series Papers, but sometimes find it hard to use them.  I'm glad I took the opportunity to work with this one with the silver foil accents from All is Calm Specialty Designer Series Paper.  It turned out to be the perfect choice to go with the Endless Wishes Stamp Set.
• I'm also perpetually in love with the Brushed Silver and Gold cardstock.  It give a really classy shine to any card, without the over-the-top glitter. The 1" Square punch was my friend here, making sure all my squares were exactly equal.  When adhering them, it's best to do the two outer ones first and then adding the middle one equidistant from each of the other two.
• The 1/8" Silver Ribbon is tied in a little fork bow and you can follow the link to find out how to make them.  They are fun and easy and create the cutest little bow ever.
• I had to find something to stamp the sentiment on because it just would not have worked stamping it on the DSP.  I chose two more of the many sentiments you get with the Endless Wishes set and stamped them on Whisper White cardstock, as I had done with the other words and images, in VersaMark Ink and embossed them in Silver Stampin' Emboss Powder.  Then I used the Banners Framelits to die cut the banner.

And that's a wrap.  I have to get this on line right away.  But before I do, here's another fun shot of my card with only the ambient flashlight light in the room, no flash! That is one shiny card!

Fun with Fall Fest and Fun Fall Framelits

Happy October! After a successful Christmas Stamper's Dozen yesterday, I felt like I needed a little Stamp Therapy down in the Craft Cave.  I needed to create something just for fun!  I've been seeing all sorts of imaginative designs using the Curvy Keepsake Box Thinlits Dies, and seeing as how I just ordered it, my main goal was to create something fun with it.  I created a pumpkin using the die, but it looked so plain, I decided it needed a little extra detail to go with it.  That's when the whole plan took shape. I created an October display with the pumpkin in the middle:

• The Fall Fest Photopolymer stamp set is featured, along with the coordinating Fun Fall Framelits.  And today's post is definitely brought to you by the letter F because not only did I use the Fall Fest Stamps, and the Fun Fall Framelits, but I also used the Flower Frenzy BigZ Die for the leaves and the vines.
• The letters and leaves were die cut from Blackberry Bliss, Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry and Always Artichoke cardstock (which is the colour of the base ),  These seem to me to be the quintessential fall colours and I'm dedicating this to my youngest daughter, Jaimie, who is celebrating her birthday today and loves autumn colours!  Jaimie is the shop owner of Etsy's Honeybee Paperie.  Check out her whimsical watercolour designs and hand-lettered prints.
• The letters were die cut using the Little Letters Thinlits which I absolutely love because you can choose the letters you want and die cut several at one time rather than one by one on the large Bigz Dies.

• Here you can see a little surprise peeking out from behind the Curvy Keepsake Box.  I die cut 2 little ghosts from Whisper White paper and added the facial features using the Fall Fest stamps.
• I made little sheafs of grass by stamping that multiple leaf image in Crushed Curry and using the coordinating framelit to die cut it and bunching 3 together with glue dots.
