Coming Soon: The Gift Box Punch Board

There is a lot to be excited about this week, not the least of which is the start of ordering from the new 2014 Holiday Catalogue on Thursday, August 28th.  And one of the most exciting products from that new catalogue is the Gift Box Punch Board, coming soon to a craft room near you - hopefully, yours.  The timing couldn't be better.  One of the more frustrating aspects of gift-wrapping is finding a suitable box for many little items.  Stampin' Up! has come up with the perfect answer.  While company policy prohibits me from showing you the actual product before the catalogue goes live, I can show you projects made with the new products and that's what I've done today.

I wanted to show you the versatility of this product, by making boxes large and small and different shaped. The base of all of them is square, but you can make cubes, shallow boxes or tall boxes.  The Gift Box Punch Board works on a similar principle to the popular Envelope Punch Board and is very easy to use and just as affordable.  Here is what one of the boxes looks like before adhering it together:

The paper these are made from is Under the Tree Specialty Designer Series Paper, which has extra weight and thickness perfect for making gift boxes.  It has a coloured design on one side and a white and kraft design on the other which make it versatile for many occasions.  If you have already received your 2014 Holiday Catalogue from me in the mail, you'll find both products on page 5.  If you haven't yet received one, give me an email or phone call and I will see that you receive one ASAP! (To be on my catalogue mailing list you must be an active customer in the two months preceding the catalogue mail out.)

These are the individual boxes now.

This is the extra-large cube box, 4 x 4 x 4 inches, which uses a full sheet of 12" x 12" paper. It is decorated with some other new products including the Cherry Cobbler 1" Sheer Linen Ribbon, and the tag is made using the Merry Everything stamp set and the Note Tag Punch which can be bundled so you can save 15%.  The floral decoration was made using the Flower Frenzy Bigz L Die from the Annual Catalogue.

This shallow box, 3.25 x 3.25 x 1.75 inches, was made using 8" x 8" paper, which is from the Under the Tree Specialty DSP.  I made the box using the Cherry Cobbler 1 1/4" Striped Grosgrain ribbon from the Annual Catalogue.  The tag was also made with the Merry Everything Stamp Set and the Note Tag Punch.

I used the kraft and white side of a 7" x 7" piece of the Under The Tree Specialty DSP to make this tall box, 1.75 x 1.75 x 2.5 inches. The new Natural and Old Olive Two-Toned Trim is like an extra-thick Baker's Twine and the flower is made using the Flower Frenzy Bigz L die.

This is the tiniest box that can be made, 1.75 x 1.75 x 1.75 inches.  You need to start with a 6" x 6" piece of paper and follow the directions on the Gift Box Punch Board.  I found the directions very clear, but once the catalogue goes live, I will made a video to show you exactly how to use it.   Just think of all the perfect boxes you will be able to make this year! The trim on this box is the Gold Satin Ribbon and the tag is made with the new Project Life Holiday Cheer Stamp Set and the Petite Curly Label Punch.

Wonderful Weekend and Wondrous Wreath!

Well, what a wonderful weekend I just had.  Anytime I can have all of my kids and grandkids under the same roof, it's a Grandma's dream come true!  It was low key, and unstructured and the weather cooperated so that we could spend some beach time.  I cooked a big turkey dinner for the family on Saturday night and we ate the delicious leftovers on Sunday.  I had lots of Grandma cuddles and stories, hugs and kisses, and once the babies were all in bed, we played a hilarious game my daughter uploaded on her IPhone called Heads Up!  It was difficult for everyone to find a free weekend, and one of my daughters and her husband had an 11 hour drive with a 2 year old and a 3 month old, but, I think everyone felt it was well-worth it for the reconnection time!  Everytime I think of downsizing and moving to a smaller house, this is the reason we don't.  We had enough indoor and outdoor space for everyone to love and sleep comfortably for the visit. I'm hoping it becomes a family tradition!

Last week, I checked out the Mojo Monday blog site and fell in love with their layout.  I got out my new Wondrous Wreath stamp set and framelits and got to work on the sketch.  I finished but ran out of blog posts last week, so I'll share it with you today although I won't be able to post it to the Mojo Monday site before the linky closes.  Here's the sketch:

Would you believe that I have my first Christmas Stamper's Dozen Class this week?!  Isn't that crazy?  But this may be one of the designs we use:

  • The Wondrous Wreath stamps are photopolymer so they make it SO easy to two-step stamp because you can clearly see where your images will be placed.  The wreath is not symmetrical, so it would be hard to get the framelit in the right place to die cut the wreath, except that Stampin' Up! has added tabs to the stamp set and framelits that allow you to line them up perfectly. You can bundle the stamps and the framelits and save 15%!
  • The colour scheme I used for this card is Pistachio Pudding, Island Indigo and Real Red.  I like the way the Island Indigo adds some interest to the straight Christmas colours of red and green.
  • The polka dot DSP is from the 2013 - 15 In Colour Designer Series Paper Stack and the striped DSP is from the All Abloom Designer Series Paper Stacks - a great value!
  • The bow and the sentiment are all from the Wondrous Wreath stamp set. The bow has a matching framelit as well. The ribbon is one of the 1/4" Cotton Ribbon samples in Indigo Ink.

Just a reminder that there is only ONE WEEK LEFT!! in the Big Shot and the Starter Kit promotions.  Don't miss out!  The Big Shot promotion is over on August 31st and the Starter Kit deal is done on August 28th.  Don't delay!

Hello Fall for As You See It Challenges

Have you felt a little nip in the air these evenings?  I am still enjoying the warm weather, but noticing a little cooler temperatures in the evenings.  My daughter, who lives further north, said they had a frost warning the other night.  Hello, Fall! But, don't worry, Autumn brings with it all sorts of compensations.  There is the harvest - fruit that has been sweetening and maturing all summer on the trees.  I especially love our nectarines and prune plums! There is Thanksgiving in October for those of us living in Canada!  There is football and hockey and all the new TV programs and a return to a comforting sense of routine.  I'm looking forward to it.

In honour of fall, and for As You See It Challenge #050, I designed this fall card.  Here's the wonderful sketch from which I worked, thanks to the talented Amanda Turner:

I had this all planned out in my head before I even got to my Craft Cave.  I was thinking that some of the watercolour images in the Colour Me Autumn Designer Series Paper would be perfect punched out and added to some little 'inchies' on the card face.  I knew I wanted to use fall colours like Crushed Curry and Cajun Craze, and I knew the sentiment would most likely come from the For All Things autumn stamp set. So it didn't take long to get it all pulled together once I got started.

  •  I used the 1" Square Punch for the little squares of Colour Me Autumn Designer Series Paper.  I used the Postage Stamp Punch for the backing of Cajun Craze.  When I added them to the card front, I used Tombow Multipurpose Glue so I could adjust the position easily before it dried and I positioned the top and bottom squares first because it is easier to then space the center one exactly.
  • The grass or wheat stamped image is from For All Things stamp set and is stamped with Crushed Curry.  The sentiment is from the same stamp set and is stamped in Cajun Craze.
  • I used Crushed Curry cardstock for the card base and the matte for the card front is Cajun Craze.
