Faux Patina Effect with the Simply Elegant Suite for Monday Morning Live

 As I continue this series of resurrecting old techniques with you for my Monday Morning Live series, I also want to continue to introduce some of the new suites from the up-coming Stampin' Up! 2021/22 Annual Catalogue. Today I'm reviewing the old Faux Patina technique as well as introducing the *Simply Elegant Suite from new Annual Catalogue.

It turns out these two are well-suited for each other as the Simply Elegant suite was made just for vintage designs and the Faux Patina effect creates a great vintage background.

• On a Basic Black card base, 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4" on the long side, I have mounted the 5 1/4" x 4" piece of Very Vanilla cardstock on which the Faux Patina effect has been completed.
• Using the Parisian Flourish 3D Embossing Folder, I added Crumb Cake ink right to the inside of the folder on the debossed side of it. That way, when the Very Vanilla cardstock has been run through the Stampin' Cut and Emboss machine in this folder, all the lower areas are inked in Crumb Cake leaving the higher parts of the design plain Very Vanilla.
• Using Blending Brushes, I added Soft Succulent and Evening Evergreen ink to the higher parts of the design, leaving some areas uninked. 
• The ink is dried and a static reducer like the embossing buddy is applied. Then Versamark ink is applied straight to the cardstock from the inkpad with a twisting motion of the wrist to avoid straight edge lines from the edges of the ink pad.
• Then first gold then copper Stampin' Embossing Powder is sprinkled on the page and the excess tamped off. The powder is heat set using the heat tool.
• Finally, a Blending Brush is used to add a bit of Soft Suede ink over the embossed images to age them and tone them down a bit.

• Even though the colour palettes of the background and the foreground are the same, I needed a large piece of Very Vanilla with Gold Foil accents from the *Simply Elegant Specialty Designer Series Paper to tame the background enough for the designs on the sentiment tag to work with it.
• I used two Stitched Rectangle panels for that purpose. One, a Basic Black backing, I altered by reapplying the die after the first die cut to make it a bit smaller. The DSP rectangle measure 3" x 4 3/8". The Basic Black measures 3 1/4" x 4 5/16".
• The sentiment, from the *Elegantly Said stamp set is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink on a piece of *Soft Succulent cardstock that is then punched using the coordinating *Elegant Tag Punch. You can make the tag different lengths by cutting a strip of paper or cardstock just slightly less than 1 3/4" wide and then inserting in the punch so that one end comes up through the punch instead of staying inside it.
• The embossed designs on the sentiment tag are from the same *Elegantly Said stamp set. Versamark ink was also applied around the edges of the tag and then they were dipped in Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder and heat set.
• I made two more tags, each slight longer than the others from another design of the *Simply Elegant Specialty Designer Series Paper and Basic Black cardstock. The *Soft Succulent Tag is 3 1/2" long, the DSP tag is 4 3/8" long and the Basic Black tag is 4 7/8" long. All are 1 3/4" wide.
• Some gold *Simply Elegant Trim finished it off.

April Fun with Paper Pumpkin

I spent an enjoyable afternoon yesterday playing with my April Paper Pumpkin kit. It's fun because it's colourful, whimsical and full of popsicles!! But that's not all. Once I finished the 12 shaped cards in the kit, I used the leftovers to create a few of my own. This month's kit coordinates with the Ice Cream Corner Suite from the Jan/Jun Mini Catalogue, so I had a lot of material I could use to add to the leftovers to make some really fun thank you cards of my own.

None of the designs were originally thank you cards but that's what I needed so I found a good 'thanks' sentiment from the Simply Succulents stamp set and turned all the labels into thank yous.

Here's how I slightly altered the basic designs of the cards to make them more to my liking. It wasn't a huge change except for the "leftover cards" where I had to start almost from scratch.

There was one popsicle-shaped card that I really didn't like the design of:

So I decided to cover the front with some of the Ice Cream Corner Designer Series Paper by cutting a strip the same width and tracing the arc of the top of the popsicle on the back of the DSP sheet, then fussy cutting it out and mounting it on the front of the Kiwi design that I didn't care for. Here's how they turned out: 

I added some of the stickers in the kit to the original designs as well so this is how they all turned out in the end:

I added the sun sticker behind the sentiment on two of the rainbows (there were only 2 sun stickers and long popsicles behind the sentiment strips on the watermelon card! I changed the size and location of the bow on the rainbow-coloured popsicle.

Now here are the ones I made almost from scratch, except for leftovers from the kit:

This one has a Bermuda Bay base with a background of Ice Cream Corner DSP. I used a popsicle sticker from the kit and cut a strip of silver glimmer paper from the left-overs of the sentiment backings in the kit. Behind the sentiment is a kiwi sticker which I didn't like as a kiwi, but looks great as a starburst behind the sentiment.

This one is one of my favourites. The Bermuda Bay base has a Coastal Cabana layer on it that is embossed with the Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder. Over that is a strip of *Pale Papaya cardstock and 3 of the smaller popsicle stickers. The sentiment banner is mounted just over another strip of silver glimmer paper cut from the leftovers of the sentiment backings in the kit, and a little twine bow finishes it off.

This is my top favourite though. On a *Pale Papaya base I added a strip of Ice Cream Corner DSP and over that I glued a piece of the silver glimmer paper that held the 6 rectangle pieces that backed the banner sentiments. I trimmed it away from the rest of the glimmer paper and it looks like a series of frames or film. The only thing is that it was too long for the card, but that just makes it look like the images continue on like a film. Within each square formed, I added either a strawberry or a watermelon fruit sticker, manipulating it so that it fit between the confines of the frame. I trimmed the excess of the frame and strawberry from the top frame. I added just a plain sentiment banner at the bottom.

This was a lot of fun to put together, and now I have 16 thank you cards for my customers! Win-win!!

Thank You Card with Pansy Dies

While I'm waiting for my second round of the new 2021/22 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue Pre-Order products to arrive, I'm kind of limited to the *Pansy Petals Suite and the new In Colours. I've created a stamp and die cut card and a plain stamped and fussy cut card. This time I've used just the *Pansy Dies along with a sentiment from the *Pansy Patch stamp set. • The layered image created by the dies which not only cut but also emboss, are so striking and pansy-like! The flowers and leaves are mounted on a *Soft Succulent panel die cut using the Stitched So Sweetly dies. The sentiment panel is die cut using the same die set.
• The sentiment, from the *Pansy Patch stamp set, is stamped in Gorgeous Grape ink.
• The cardstock colours used for the images are *Fresh Freesia, Highland Heather, Gorgeous Grape, *Soft Succulent, *Evening Evergreen and Daffodil Delight.
• *3/8" Open Weave Ribbon in *Soft Succulent is used as an embellishment.
