Festive Fireplace for Freshly Made Sketches

Rich colour seems to be making a comeback in Christmas decor. After having white Christmas lights on our house, as we've had for several years, this year we will be putting some new coloured LED lights - big ones! Maybe it is a result of longing for safer days, like back in the 50s and 60s, or maybe it is just the pendulum swinging, but many of our colour palettes in the Holiday Catalogue have a red and green theme. That's what I went with when I designed a card for Freshly Made Sketches Challenge #210.

Here's the sketch:

I always have trouble with inchies on a sketch, but since they could be any shape, I decided to use a stamp set and framelit bundle that I haven't used as yet - The Festive Fireplace bundle.

  • I stamped and die cut the wreath, using the journaling tip of my Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Write Marker to fill in all the little berries. (Yes, that took quite a while and my eyes are still having some trouble focusing!!) I glued the wreaths on to the Whisper White panel and then I used the wreath center die to die cut the hole in the middle of each wreath through the Whisper White panel so that the Garden Green below shows through.
  • Little Letters Thinlit Dies created the letters for JOY, cut out of Red Glimmer Paper. I was originally planning to have a cat either sitting on each wreath or poking its head through, but the cat image is too big for sitting on the wreath, and, because it's the back of the cat, the small portion that could poke through the wreath might be hard to figure out. I think I like the letters better anyway.
  • The sentiment is from Jolly Christmas. I inked it up in Garden Green, then used a Qtip to remove the ink from the ornaments and used a Cherry Cobbler and a Garden Green Stampin' Write Marker to ink them up.
  • I haven't used the Bow Builder Punch in quite a while, but it was the perfect thing to fill up all the white space to the right of the wreathes. Red Glimmer Paper really takes the design up a notch.
By the way, the best way to align three equal images on a page is to glue on the first and last images equidistant from the top and the bottom (or the right and left sides) and then center the middle image between them. You are sure to get the spacing right then.

Double Papercraft Cat Points during November

Are you collecting my Papercraft Cat points? (One of my customers dubbed them Pickle Points after my papercrafting cat, Pickle!) You earn 1 Pickle Point for every $30 you spend in one order. When you collect 20 points, you will receive a $50 Gift Certificate for Stampin' Up! products. It hasn't been an issue until now, but each point expires two years after the date it was issued. That means the first points I gave out will start to expire in January 2016. To help you gather 20 points before some expire, I am offering you Double Pickle Points during November. You will receive 2 points for every $30 you spend until November 30! Perfect for Christmas Shopping!
(*Note that the minimum for earning points is still $30. You don't get 1 point for $15.)
