Best Thoughts and Secrets for Freshly Made Sketches

I love secrets, and concealed surprises! I'm fascinated by hidden rooms and secret passageways. My card today has a secret and it was the first thing I thought of when I saw the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge for this week.

What an unusual sketch! But there is so much room for new ideas with this layout! I decided to make the tab shaped layer into a secret panel in my card. Here's what it looks like:

  • It's not difficult to do this technique. Mount your top panel on the card front using Stampin' Dimensionals along the outside edge of three sides. I like to use the continuous border along the outside edge of a sheet of dimensionals. It's easy to mount them straight and they don't take up as much room as the regular sized dimensionals so there is more room for your secret panel.
  • Measure the cardstock of your secret panel so it fits inside the dimensionals on the three sides of the top panel and sticks out about 1/4". I made the angled sides of the tab using the Medium Star Punch. It was a bit of a learning curve!

  • The image on the top panel is from a Host stamp set called Best Thoughts. It just begs to be coloured using the White Wash Technique. I embossed the image in White Stampin' Emboss Powder, then painted the entire image using an Aqua Painter and White Craft Ink. After it is dry, I used a Blender Pen and Cucumber Crush and Watermelon Wonder Classic Stampin' Pads to add colour to the centers and where petals or leaves overlap, then I use the blender pen to draw the colour into the center or edges. It mixes with the White Craft ink for a very soft, luminous effect.
  • One sentiment is from Birthday Blossoms (as are the blossoms on the secret panel) and the other is from Best Thoughts. I think they work well together.

I hope you had a great weekend! Mine was NOT fun, but it was satisfying! I am the world's worst procrastinator when it comes to my accounting. (I had the whole year of 2015 to record - don't laugh!)
But I not only got that done, I am ready for taxes now! And I even set up a program on my computer to make keeping this year's books easier and hopefully, more consistent. I can't tell you how good it feels to get that monkey off my back! Hopefully, I won't let it climb back on, but as George Carlin once said:
