Pretty Pines Wreath

I'm working on some decor items for my Holiday Catalogue launch on this Saturday, and one thing I have been planning on making ever since I saw the Pretty Pines Thinlit Dies, is a wreath of fir branches using them. So that's what I cooked up today.

I did a class this week using those same dies for this card:

and we had some difficulties with the fir branch dies. so I wasn't sure about how easy this was going to be. We used the Precision Base Plate, but that seemed to just jam the paper into the die so hard that we couldn't get it out with any tool at all. Then we used the Magnetic Platform with a shim and that was better, but there were still issues getting them out. We finally decided to use waxed paper and that was good, but I didn't want to have to use waxed paper on every single one of the branches I die cut. I decided to keep it simple like I had the first time I used the dies and I had no problem. I just used the Magnetic platform and 2 cutting pads and nothing else and you know what? No issues at all!! Hmmm! It must be the KISS principle at work!

I used some of the thicker press board from some specialty paper I had and cut out  a wreath shape. I die cut the large, medium and small lengths of fir branches from every colour of green cardstock in my collection, some colours a few more times than other. Then I used Liquid Multipurpose Glue and Glue Dots to adhere the branches to the base until the base was all covered.  I added some of the Mini Pine Cones and Mini Jingle Bells for accents and tied a double bow using the Cherry Cobbler Silky Taffeta Ribbon from the Combo Pack.
