The Annual Catalogue Goes Live & Milestone Birthdays for As You See It Challenge #177

Oh, my word! The birthdays in June!! What on earth was going on in October that caused so many to have birthdays during the month of June?? And this year seems to be the year for all the milestone birthdays, too! In the space of 2 weeks we have been invited to 4 birthday parties and 3 of them are milestone birthdays!!

One of them is for a guy, and today's As You See It Challenge #177 is for a masculine card as part of a Collection Challenge, so my Design Team sample is going to be a birthday card for the birthday boy! Here's AYSI's Challenge banner:

You can't get much more masculine than this! To play a Collection Challenge, you card must contain all the elements from the challenge banner. And to pull it all together, I decided to use the layout from LeAnne's sketch for The Paper Players' latest challenge:

The circle can be any shape you want, so I made mine a square to comply with the As You See It Challenge.

Here's my design:

  • The blue card base is the new In Colour, Blueberry Bushel. It has a great masculine look to it, and seems to work well with Sahara Sand, Silver and the darker wood grain from Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack, which is the first DSP that I can remember being carried over from one Annual Catalogue to the next! Here is the colour palette I used:
  • I added some Sahara Sand ink to the raised inside of the Pinewood Planks Dynamic Embossing Folder and spritzed a piece of Sahara Sand cardstock with water and added it to the embossing folder, then ran it through. It gave the wood grain definition and visibility.
  • I took a piece of the darkest, most rustic wood textures from the stack of the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack and cut it into a 3 3/4" x 2 1/2" piece. I stamped the tree image from Rooted in Nature on it in Versamark Ink and sprinkled White Stampin' Emboss Powder on it. (Don't forget to use your Embossing Buddy on the paper first before stamping.) The embossing powder was set with the Heat Tool. That piece is mounted in the upper left of the wood grain embossed cardstock.
  • I stamped a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock with the watercolour background from Love What You Do stamp set, in Sahara Sand, stamped off once. I then combined the happy SIXTIETH birthday sentiment from the retired Milestone Moments stamp set (I told you I was going to keep this useful set.) on one Clear Block D and stamped it on the background with Versamark ink. Make sure the Sahara Sand ink is dry first and go over it with your embossing buddy before stamping. Sprinkle on the Silver Stampin' Emboss Powder and heat set.
  • Die cut with the Layering Square Framellits and die cut a scallop square to fit for a frame from the Blueberry Bushel cardstock.
  • Add some looped Silver Metallic Thread to the back using glue dots and glue down all panels to the card.
  • Stamp the Celebrate sentiment from Itty Bitty Greetings on Whisper White. Punch it out using the Classic Label Punch, but then make it shorter by inserting the label ends back in the punch slit and punching again. Do the same to make a slightly larger Blueberry Bushell tag for the background and a full length Silver Foil one. Glue all three together evenly and mount on the card front using Mini-Dimensionals.

  3. What a masculine masterpiece! I've never spritzed with that folder but I see it gives so much more texture that doing it dry. I also like the tree embossed in white - it really shines. Thanks so much for joining us again at The Paper Players.
