Christmas in the Paddock and Year End Closeout Sale

Have you ever started out on a project that just got more and more out of hand the further into it you got? That's what happened to me last night! I had seen a picture that I loved and I wanted to turn it into a Christmas card for my horse loving sister and I thought I had all the elements to pull it off, but it just got more and more complicated the more I worked on it. I think it was my first decision that made it so difficult, but I didn't realize that until I was too far along to change it, so I just had to make the best of it. Here's the picture I was trying to reproduce:

And here's mine:

  • I thought that Heartland and Let It Ride would give me the horse and the barn and I could create the fence posts by hand cutting some from the Barn Door image.
  • The Barn Door stamp set and coordinating dies could also provide the wreath.
  • The Christmas Countdown stamp had a little cardinal that would work, along with some snowflakes.
  • And I turned to Roots of Nature for some Background Trees. Then it was just colouring in, sponging and using Shimmery White Embossing paste for the snow, after shading in the Whisper White cardstock underneath with Balmy Blue ink.
  • The trees and sky background were Gray Granite and Smoky Slate, while the snowflakes were Whisper White craft ink.
  • My big mistake was stamping the barn in Real Red. I should have stamped it in Memento Tuxedo Black ink and then coloured it in in Real Red using Stampin' Blends markers.

  3. Ha ha ha! I can just see you with splotches of embossing paste on your cheeks and nose, and your fingers covered in ink and embossing paste. I would have loved to be there to watch your creative process.
