Born to Shine for As You See It Challenge #223

Do you like to watch dancing? I'm a big sucker for shows like "So You Think You Can Dance" and "World of Dance"! I believe the artistry and athleticism of dance is one of the best ways of conveying meaning and emotion that the world of the arts has to offer. Mind you, I had a daughter that was heavily involved in ballet for many years and was in a professional dance school so I'm a little bit biased that way anyway! That's why I couldn't resist the Born to Shine stamp set when I saw it in the Annual Catalogue. But I've not had a lot of opportunity to use it up until now.

With Friday comes an new As You See It Challenge, and our DT member Amy came up with a wonderful theme challenge, Rainbow:

I can't quite remember the thought process that led me to taking out the Born to Shine stamp set, but I think that it went something like this: "Oh, I haven't used Born to Shine yet. How can I match that up with Rainbows? Well, ballet costumes and stage lights come in all colours of the rainbow, so....." and a card was born!!

As I looked at the images in the set, I had another brain wave. There is a dancer facing the front and another facing the back, and the positions of the hands and feet look like, if they are combined, they would make a great action sequence of a pirouette across the stage. So I got out my Stamparatus and used the two stamps and the hinge technique to create that same sequence. Here's how it turned out:

• I positioned the back facing image and the front facing image about 1/4" from each other on the Stamparatus flap aligning the feet vertically. I inked them up using Memento Tuxedo Black ink and stamped the first two images. I moved the flap down one hinge length and restamped the same two images.
• Then I moved the flap a couple of hinges down so that the back facing image was located right after the second forward facing dancer and reinked it and stamped it. I removed the forward facing dancer from the Stamparatus and mounted it on a Clear Block E, reinked it and stamped just the edge of it on the left side by the first back facing dancer.
• I added the star sparkle images from the stamp set to the background with the same ink. 
• The sponge brayer was used to add the rainbow effect. I started with the lightest colour, Daffodil Delight, in the middle and worked towards each end with darker and darker colours. To the left I used Pumpkin Pie next, overlapping part of the Daffodil Delight. Over that, I added Poppy Parade at the far left. 
• With a different sponge roller, to the right, I added Granny Apple Green, then Coastal Cabana, the Night of Navy and finally Gorgeous Grape, overlapping each colour for continuity.

• It's always hard to photograph, but each dancer's hair and outfit is painted with Wink of Stella to add some glitter, which is quite stunning in real life, as hard as it is to see on camera!
• The sentiment is from the same stamp set, stamped in Memento ink, and die cut using the Frosted Bouquet dies.
• Finally, I added some Noble Peacock and some Holiday coloured Rhinestones in colours coordinating to the rainbow section they are placed in.
