Butterfly Brilliance for As You See It Challenge #294 - Spring Clean your Stash

I have an unusual challenge for you today from As You See It Challenges today! It's called Spring Clean your Stash, and it's a Theme Challenge! Take a look at the Challenge Banner:

challenge #294

I had no idea what I was going to do, until I opened my craft stash and had a look at what scraps were in there. But inspiration struck as soon as I saw several butterflies embossed in white on crumb cake and then white washed with the White Craft Ink and water. These had been prepared earlier for a different project and then, due to a change of direction, not used! They were prepared for the whitewash technique, where, after the whitewash stage dries, you add coloured inks to the images with a Blender Pen and it mixes with the white craft ink for a beautiful muted tone.

  • I started with a card base of Crumb Cake, which was one that I had in my stash from unpackaging dozens of left over card packs that weren't used from classes in the past. As I down size my craft room in preparation for my move on Apr. 26th, I'm finally dealing with these problem piles!
  • On that is a 5" x 3 3/4" sheet of Basic White, again, from that same source, and on that is a piece of Petal Pink laser cut framework, I believe from the retired Beautifully Detailed Laser Cut Specialty Paper.
  • On the three butterflies, I added Petal Pink, Mint Macaron, and Highland Heather ink, using a Blender Pen, which mixes the ink with the White Craft ink that they had been whitewashed with previously, to give a really muted tone. When they were dry, a coat of Wink of Stella was added.
  • Each butterfly also had a die cut outline in vellum, also from my stash. I adhered each on the card front, where I wanted each butterfly, and then curled the wings of the butterflies slightly, carefully using the bone folder. I added them a little offset on the vellum outlines so the vellum could be seen, using Mini Dimensionals.
  • The sentiment is from the retired bundle, Many Messages, and I had it in my craft stash as well.
  • Finally, I had some opalescent pearl embellishments left over from a Paper Pumpkin kit, and added 1 to each butterfly's head.

  2. What a great way to use up those pretty butterflies and that laser cut piece Heather; it would be a real shame for them to lie unused for sure!

  4. It would have been a great shame if these lovely butterflies never saw the light of day. Isn't it funny the gorgeous things we've put aside and forgotten about?

  5. Heather, your butterflies are too beautiful to be lost in a stash somewhere on a shelf. Thanks for making this beautiful card for us to see. Butterflies are my favorite. I have a board on Pinterest of just butterflies. I will have to save yours to it.😊
