Poinsettia Dies in Brayered Vellum

I've seen so many beautiful Christmas cards recently using the Poinsettia Dies that I just had to have another go at them. This time, I decided to use vellum and I wanted to add some colour to it, so I decided to get out my sponge brayers and add some Magenta Madness and Just Jade ink to one side of two different pieces of vellum. These are two of my favourite new In Colours this year and they did a great job with their vibrant tones. A pastel tone would be too washed out to add colour to vellum, because the vellum tones it down so much.

Let's take a closer look first, before I describe the process in more detail:

  • First I added colour to one side of two pieces of vellum using sponge brayers, one for the Magenta Madness and one for the Just Jade ink.
  • Once the vellum was covered evenly in the ink, I dried it using the Heat Tool, and then set it aside a bit to let it dry even more, otherwise it comes off on your fingers and makes a mess.
  • I stamped the sentiment from the Poinsettia Petals stamp set in Magenta Madness on the top of the Whisper White panel and added it to the Just Jade card base.
  • I die cut, using the Poinsettia Dies, 1 large poinsettia flower with embossing plate, and 2 each of everything else: the medium poinsettia flower with embossing plate, the small embossing flower with embossing plate, small leaf with embossing plate, the large leaf with embossing plate and the berry sprig.
  • I die cut 4 of the teeny flowers. I heat embossed the berries twice using Silver Stampin' Emboss Powder on the Just Jade brayered vellum, then die cut them using the berry die cut.
  • I assembled everything using Liquid Multipurpose Glue, because Glue Dots won't work on the brayered surface of the vellum, unfortunately. I gently used the bone folder to shape the petals and leaves first. I then glued everything to the card front as shown using the Liquid Multipurpose Glue again.
  • I used either the Beaded Pearls embellishments or regular pearl jewels to add centers to the poinsettias.

Tasteful Touches for New at SU Blog Hop

Welcome to our NEW AT SU! Blog hop! We are a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world who are Hoppin’ with creative paper crafting ideas to share with you. Today we are showcasing the new 2020/2022 In Colours from the 2020 - 2021 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue. I am using the Tasteful Touches bundle to create some cards in all five of the new In Colours so that you can see all of them together!

  • I decided to go with a basic layout and vary the colour and background Designer Paper for each of the cards. Points if you can spot the differences between them!
  • The first two are in Magenta Madness and Misty Moonlight. Those colours are used for the card bases, the ornate background panel created with the Ornate Layers Dies, the backing for the sentiment, created with the Tasteful Labels dies (part of the In Good Taste Suite that I'm featuring), the ribbon and the flower image from Tasteful Touches that I stamped, coloured with the appropriate Stampin' Blends Combo and fussy cut.
  • The background Designer Series Paper is from the In Good Taste collection which is part of this same suite of products. It has a great variety of texture in all the designs and is one of my favourites in the whole Annual Catalogue.
  • I used the Square Vellum Doilies behind the flower image, but cut away the corners. I also used some of the design element images from the Tasteful Touches stamp set to stamp on the DSP, right behind the label in some cases.

  • These two samples feature the 2020-2022 In Colours, Cinnamon Cider and Bumble Bee.  You'll notice a different sentiment with these two and therefore a different backing label. What other differences do you notice? Take a close look at the Bumble Bee ribbon.

  • Now for maybe my favourite of the new In Colours. This one is called Just Jade and it's a perfect shade of green to my way of thinking - not too blue and not too green, but very eye-pleasing and it goes along with so many other colours. Notice the different design of DSP behind it? And the stamping done on it?
Which are your favourites among the new 2020 - 2022 In Colours? Tell me why below.
