Gorgeous Leaves for Freshly Made Sketches

gorgeous leaves for fms 1

I have to say, I've really been enjoying this mini-vacation I've been taking from blogging over the last couple of weeks. It's been just what the doctor ordered. I've been reading, painting, getting outside, processing some fruit and just enjoying myself. But I've also missed doing a little stamping so I thought I would get back into the swing of things with a fall themed card using the Gorgeous Leaves bundle and the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge sketch.

This is a great simplified sketch, leaving lots of room for interpretation so I went full fall mode with coloured leaves, grasses, wood grain and fall colours.

  • On a Soft Suede base, I added a layer of Harvest Meadow Designer Series Paper.
  • I took a smaller piece of Soft Suede cardstock and ran it through the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine using the Timber 3D Embossing Folder. I then used the Blending Brushes to blend Soft Suede, Early Espresso and Smoky Slate ink over the embossed grain to make it more visible. It was mounted centered vertically on the far right edge of the DSP.
  • I die cut a smaller rectangle of Cork Specialty paper using the Stitched Rectangle Dies and mounted it on the embossed cardstock starting it centered vertically on the far right edge.
  • Using the Gorgeous Leaves stamp set, I inked up the leaves in one colour and using a dedicated sponge dauber, sponged on another colour straight from the ink pad to the stamp. I then remoistened the ink and stamped the image.
  • The leaves were die cut using the Intricate Leaves dies, and arranged on the cork panel in a pleasing way.
  • The grasses were die cut using the Sunflower Dies from Cajun Craze and Crushed Curry cardstock. They were added to the array on the cork board using glue dots and a Linen Thread Bow added.
  • The sentiment is embossed in gold and is part of the Many Messages stamp set and die. It's added using Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • The final touch is the Brushed Metal Adhesive Backed Dots.

Butterfly Bijou and Brilliant Wings

butterfly bijou and brilliant wings 1

I finally got my order of the Butterfly Brilliance collection that you are able to purchase now and I couldn't wait to play with it and see what it could do! I started by using the Butterfly Bijou 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper and the Brilliant Wings dies and seeing if there was any correlation between the two. And, Ta Da! the first sheet of the DSP matches exactly to the composite die with the six butterflies and perfectly die cuts all the whole butterflies on the sheet! How cool is that? You don't have to stamp or colour them if you don't want to. (But of course, I will want to in the future. I'm a stamper, after all!)

But I didn't want my card to be so simplistic, so I got out my Frosty White Shimmer Paint, which I was reminded about when I organized my work station a little more by purchasing a couple of Storage by Stampin' Up! Open Storage Cubes and Storage Toppers.

storage by stampin up cubes and toppers

I used them to store a lot of loose stamp pads, refills, glues and cleaners that used to perch precariously on top of my custom made stamp pad holder and regularly tumble off, annoying the heck out of me. I should have done it a lot sooner!

Anyway, back to my card: I used the Frosty White Shimmer Paint and a very fine paint brush to add some shine to both the background paper, which is from the Butterfly Bijou DSP and the butterflies themselves. See if you can tell here:

  • The background DSP is actually the other side of the design with the butterflies that we die cut . It has some beautiful blends of Just Jade, Mint Macaron, Magenta Madness, Blushing Bride, So Saffron and Mango Melody. There are many beautiful backgrounds in this series.
  • The card base is Just Jade and the backing is Mint Macaron.
  • I painted the Frosty White Shimmer Paint on different areas and patterns of the different die cut butterflies and then adhered them to the background. I trimmed of the parts that overhung the edges.
The sentiment is one that I previously embossed and die cut using the Many Messages bundle and the Stamparatus.

If it wasn't for adding the Shimmer Paint, this card would have been a fairly easy card to make, so this suite has something for every level of stamper.
