Snowflake Wishes with a New Kind of Shaker for As You See It

snowflake wishes new shaker 1

Happy Friday, everyone! It's been a heavy kind of week, with new COVID restrictions due to higher infection rates, and a big event that I had been asked to do at our church cancelled after hours of prep work on it! I don't think the cards will go to waste, though. The church is thinking that if we can get them assembled, they will use them to bless families in the congregation over the Christmas season.

Because it's Friday, there's another As You See It Challenge up, and it's an interesting one for sure:

The title of the challenge is Not My Jam! Imagine making a card with your least favourite colour, especially when colour is a huge driver for your creativity! When that happens you have to find other motivations, so I went for a new technique like a new way of making a shaker card, and lots of sparkle. I decided to use the Snowflake Wishes Bundle and the Rainbow Glimmer paper. Here's a closer look. See if you can figure out how I made the shaker card in such an easy way:

  • I learned this technique at our OnStage@Home event a couple of weeks ago. It's so easy, it's crazy! You simply take a clear envelope and add a 5 1/4" x 4" piece of DSP inside it (or cardstock) then fold the excess envelope over the side and tape it firmly down. (Here I used some Artistry Blooms DSP.)
  • Fill the envelope with sequins or shaker bits of any kind, then fold the sticky flap over tightly and adhere to the back. (I used some Snowflake Sequins and some leftover iridescent sequins of some kind that I had in my stash.)
  • Add adhesive and glue to to the card base. Then you can add a sentiment and embellishments to the front of the shaker envelope. (I stamped my sentiment from Snowflake Wishes on Whisper White with Melon Mambo ink and die cut it with one of the Stitched Rectangle dies.)
  • I embellished it with various styles of snowflakes die cut with the So Many Snowflake dies from the Rainbow Glimmer Paper.

Nothing's Better Than...

nothing's better than

There was a stamp set in the 2020/21 Annual Catalogue that caught my eye almost from the beginning and it was an unusual one for me to like for a couple of reasons. I usually don't like food or alcohol sets and I usually don't like the cartoony type sets. This one was different for some reason, maybe because the designs were really sharp and the fonts looked so good together. Also the sentiments are so witty that they had me laughing right away. That stamp set is called Nothing's Better Than. It's available with it's coordinating die set: Love You More Than, in a bundle saving you 10%.

I wanted to practise doing a Facebook Live yesterday before doing my big class in the evening, so I got out the Nothing's Better Than stamp set to create a Quick & Cute card so I could try it on Facebook Live for a trial run. What came about was an easy but attractive card that anyone could whip up for a friend!

nothing's better than
  • I chose chocolate as the addictive substance I wanted to create about, since I'm not a coffee drinker, and I have to go easy on cookies and I have no kids to bake them for and my hubby isn't supposed to have them either! But chocolate... oh, yeah! In moderate amounts (who's kidding who?) it's actually beneficial, so they say!
  • Due to chocolate, I used Early Espresso as my card base and then added a layer of the light, neutral In Good Taste Designer Series Paper. Before gluing that down though, I added a 2" strip wide strip of Rainbow Glimmer Paper at an angle to the DSP and trimmed off the excess. Because the Rainbow Glimmer Paper has every colour of the rainbow on it, each card has a slightly different palette to it according to where on the spectrum of the glimmer paper it falls.
  • I used the main glimmer paper colours for the coloured parts of the sentiments: Granny Apple Green and Coastal Cabana on the right card and Mango Melody and Flirty Flamingo on the left card. The sentiments are from the Nothing's Better Than set. The word Chocolate is a separate and is stamped in Early Espresso. Then I cut a strip of Whisper White to include those words. I used the Tailored Tag Punch to punch out the bottom sentiment.
  • When stamping the chocolates on Whisper White cardstock, I started with the solid background stamp in Soft Suede for the card on the left for dark chocolate and Crumb Cake for the card on the right. Then, matching the backgrounds, I added the Early Espresso outline image over top. It just takes a minute to line them up correctly as the stamp set is photopolymer.
  • I fussy cut the images and added them with Mini Stampin' Dimensionals, which I had no issues with, sticking to the Glimmer Paper, as we have had in the past. Voila!

Whale Done for As You See It Challenges

I really can't believe it's time for another As You See It Challenge today. And this time it's a recipe challenge concocted by Design Team member, Amy! Here are all the elements in the recipe:

I had thought about going gingham and flowery with the paper scraps and repeat images, which seemed to go along well with the pink colour in the recipe, but as I was looking over my new stamp sets, my eye fell on the Whale Done stamp set with it's Jellyfish image and I immediately thought, "Jellyfish would look great as repeat images done in shades of pink!" Then, my new Rainbow Glimmer Paper caught my eye and I envisioned using scraps of that to go along with my shimmery looking jellyfish and my vision came together. Here it is:

  • On a Pool Party base, I added a piece of Soft Sea Foam cardstock that I embossed with the very intricate Seabed 3D Embossing Folder. This one is so cool because different elements are embossed at different depths, giving it a true 3D appearance, and they're all undersea images.
  • I took a 2" strip of Whisper White and sponged it with Coastal Cabana, Pool Party and Soft Sea Foam Ink. Then, using the Hinge Technique with the Stamparatus, I stamped several images of the jellyfish from the Whale Done stamp set. Each one was stamped in a different shade of pink/purple starting from Blushing Bride to Flirty Flamingo, Melon Mambo, Magenta Madness and Gorgeous Grape. I added this panel to the front of the Soft Sea Foam panel.
  • I had a 1/2" strip of Rainbow Glimmer paper that I cut into two 5 1/4" lengths to use for my paper scraps. I tried my new Stampin' Seal+ adhesive to see how well it would work on the glimmer paper and it seems to be holding really well.
  • I needed a one word sentiment and the closest I had in the Whale Done stamp set was Thanks a ton, so I masked the "a ton" in tape, inked up the thanks in Magenta Madness, removed the tape and stamped the one word, Thanks, on to a 1/2" wide strip of Whisper White. I then trimmed and flagged the end and mounted it on the card using Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • The last element I needed was a bow. The Whale of a Time Suite has some beautiful ribbon to go with it that I wanted to try:  the Pool Party 3/8" Sheer Ribbon. It's sheer and shimmery and really easy to work with. I added the bow to the top left to balance the sentiment in the bottom right, but I think it might look really good with the sentiment as well.

You have only 10 days left to take advantage of my Suite Shares! They will only be available until the end of June. With Suite Shares, I offer you a half share of all the paper, ribbon and embellishments that are part of one particular suite in the new 2020/2021 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue. That way you get enough to work with, all the products coordinate, you only choose the suites you really like and you have the option of adding the stamp set and tool bundle to your share and earning a special treat from me, if you do. The shares themselves are very affordable, so you can afford to do more than one if you would like to.
