Shaun the Sheep and Minion Punch Art for a Child's Birthday

Two of my grandsons have birthdays this month only a day apart. Kesten will be 3 this year, and his cousin, Wyatt, will turn 2! Interestingly enough, both boys have a favourite cartoon character that they like, so when I saw Shaun the Sheep and Stuart the Minion on Pinterest, I knew I had to make a card for each grandson!

Kesten loves the minions! Stuart and his other minion friends just starred in their own feature length movie.

Wyatt loves Shaun the Sheep! Shaun has a new movie set to be released in August!

The minion card is a copy of one I made previously. You can find all the instructions for that one here.

  • This card was CASE'd from Kelly Kent and I followed her instructions. I changed some minor things on the card to suit it for my grandson's birthday, but it is her brilliant design!
  • This is punch art at it's most creative, for many of the shapes here were made from the new Tree Builder Punch! This was designed to coordinate with the Sprinkles of Life Stamp Set, but, as you can see, it's much more versatile!

  • Here are the instructions:  Head - 1 1/4" Circle punch with sides cut off                                                                                Ears - Flower Fair Framelits                                                                                                        Wool on head - Scallop flower from Tree Builder Punch                                                                Body - Tree Top (leaves) from Tree Builder Punch                                                                        Legs - Tree Trunk from Tree Builder Punch                                                                                  Eyes - Medium Circles (in white) from Owl Builder Punch and                                                               circles (in black) from Cupcake Builder Punch

Give these a try! They're fairly simple to do and they'll make some child very happy!

Corner Flip Card with Sprinkles of Life for Pals Paper Arts

I've been dying to try out this fancy fold that I first saw on Dawn Olchefske's blog. It's called a Corner Flip card and it's very easy to do. I also just got the new Ronald McDonald Charity Stamp Set called Sprinkles of Life. It's Stampin' Up!'s fundraiser for Ronald McDonald Charities. For every one of these stamp sets sold, Stampin' Up! donates $3 to Ronald McDonald House Charities, a very worthwhile cause. This one is a photopolymer set with 22 stamps all together and very versatile just like Sheltering Tree! You get a great stamp set and you get to donate to a great cause in one fell swoop! I used a color swatch from Pals Paper Arts Challenge #254 for this one.

Since Strawberry Slush is now retired, I opted to use Watermelon Wonder, which gives a nice, cheery Ice Cream or Bakery Shop look to this design.

I made the card for someone who is a friend and also an awesome customer. It's so much fun to share the love of papercrafting with a friend!

  • The card is made using a standard card base, Watermelon Wonder cardstock cut in half at        5 1/2" x 8 1/2" and scored at 4 1/4". Before I did the cutting for the special Corner Flip, I added a piece of Watermelon Wonder Striped Envelope paper to the front. Using my Stampin' Trimmer, I aligned the left edge (with the paper in landscape and the envelope paper on the left half) at 3" on the trimmer. I set the blade at 2 1/2", using the ruler on the blade guide, and cut from 2 1/2" to 4 7/8". Then I turned the paper clockwise 90 degrees and aligned the left edge with the 3" mark. I set my blade at 3", using the ruler on the blade guide again, and cut up to 5/8". After folding the card base on the score line, I pushed the bottom of the cut square away from me and pulled the top toward me and sharpened the creases when it is square. I then had the corner flip fold I could decorate.

  • I added pieces of Soft Suede to the inside of the card and to the front of the flip fold as you see above. I cut pieces of Whisper White to fit just inside both areas.
  • I stamped the images from Sprinkles of Life on to the smaller Whisper White square in Watermelon Wonder, Soft Suede and So Saffron inks and adhered it to the Soft Suede square and onto the Corner Flip.
  • The banners were created using the Triple Banner Punch from strips of So Saffron and Whisper White, and cut to fit the punch in 2 different widths. The sentiment, stamped in Watermelon Wander ink, is from Remembering Your Birthday and it is a perfect font to use with the cupcake image. One of the new In Colour Blossom Accents adds a finishing touch to the sentiment area! I used the Cupcake Builder Punch to create the cherry on top of the cupcake.
