Signs of Santa for Christmas Card Buffet Class

This coming Saturday, I will be doing a Christmas Card Buffet class and I needed one last sample for it. I had several beautiful cards and I needed one more cute design, so I got out the Signs of Santa stamp set to see what I could come up with. Now with a Card Buffet, the class members are completing up to 16 cards in 3 hours so they have to be fairly simple to do. I hope this one will be okay if I do some of the die cutting ahead of time. It not only features the Signs of Santa bundle but also the Hometown Greetings Edgelit dies for the village.

You can see how I created that here:

  • I die cut the one edgelit twice, once in Poppy Parade and once in Whisper White. I trimmed off the trees on both die cuts, because there are no trees at the North Pole, right? and then I also trimmed the snowman off the red piece and all the houses off the white one. Then I adhered them together so that the white would make the ground snowy instead of red.
  • This was mounted on a Whisper White panel run through the Big Shot with the Softly Falling Embossing Folder.
  • I stamped the sentiment from Signs of Santa at the bottom first, in Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
  • Santa and the signpost images were stamped in the same ink and coloured in with Stampin' Write Markers: I used Poppy Parade, Crushed Curry, Pool Party, Crumb Cake, Powder Pink and Blushing Bride.
  • These two images and the three large snowflakes were die cut with framelits from the Santa's Signposts Framelits and added to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals and the mini versions as well.
  • Rhinestones were added to the center of the snowflakes. This panel was adhered to a Poppy Parade card base.

Happy 150th Birthday Canada! for AYSI#153

This is an exciting weekend if you are a Canadian! Our wonderful country turns 150 years old on July 1st! That's a pretty big deal for us! I remember when Canada celebrated it's 100th birthday back in 1967! I was just a kid then, but it made for some lasting memories. Our country has come so far in 50 years. I believe we've grown up and we have become more and more respected among the nations of the world.

Don't get me wrong, Canada still has plenty of domestic problems to deal with, the worst of which is our treatment of our aboriginal people, which seems to be taking forever to improve and is a scar on our reputation, but there is a lot that we can take pride in and I am very proud to be Canadian!

The moment I saw the Colourful Seasons Bundle, with the Seasonal Layers Thinlits, I knew right away that I would be using them to make the best Canada Day card ever! In fact, I even wondered if Stampin' Up! had brought that set out on purpose, with all those awesome maple leaves, knowing that it was Canada's 150th birthday this year. Thanks for that SU!

And, of course, being Friday, it just happens to be an As You See It Challenge Friday and Amanda's sketch worked perfectly for my Canada Day card:

Here's my Happy Birthday Salute to Canada:

  • The colours are, of course, red and white, because our flag is red and white with that iconic maple leaf in the middle. I used Real Red and Whisper White cardstock and Red Glimmer Paper!
  • The Whisper White layer was cut at one end and split a little so you could see the Red Glimmer paper beneath it. It was also embossed using the Softly Falling Embossing Folder with the highest concentration of dots near the cut and then gradually decreasing the further away you get in each direction, left and right. This could represent snow, which we get a lot of in the winter, but it also made me think of fireworks for celebration. These also represent the lace on the challenge sketch.
  • I die cut several maple leaves - two sizes, two different papers, and either solid or intricately die cut and arranged them around the cut line.
  • The sentiment I had to do on the computer to get it small enough. Even though Stampin' Up! divested itself of My Digital Studio a couple of years ago, I still have the program loaded on my computer and still use it for situations like this where I can get a relatively accurate colour match for the Stampin' Up! colours. I die cut it with the banner from the Bunch of Banners Framelits with the border from that framelit cut in Red Glimmer Paper.
  • Here you can see the texture of the Softly Falling Embossing Folder a little better:

Well, August is already half over and I'm wondering if you've used your Bonus Days coupons yet. You know they're only good until the end of August, right? I wanted to demonstrate a very easy Christmas card that you could make that would be easily duplicated in bulk, great for your season's greetings, and features the Thoughtful Branches stamp set.

My weekend?

We made 105 peach pies on Saturday! We had a gang of about 12 of us off and on and managed to make them between 8 am - 3 pm! It was a lot of hard work, but with donated supplies and all the pies sold, we raised over $1000 to add to our sponsorship fund for the refugee family we are sponsoring! I was in major back pain all Saturday afternoon and evening, but it felt worth it, considering what our refugee family has had to endure over the last four or five years.
