Happy Birthday to a Special Sister

My sister, Sandi, had a birthday last Saturday, and I made a card for her. (Of course I did! Duh!) Hopefully she will have it by now ( it was only a few days late...) and I can share it with you. My sister is the glue that holds us all together. She makes sure we stay in contact with each other and she fixes many problems we might have! She loves the outdoors, her animals and her friends. She makes you happy just talking to her! I was thinking outdoors and fall colours when I designed her card using the Awesomely Artistic stamp set.

  • The style of this card's background is known as Collage Stamping, where you stamp several different images on the same layer, overlapping some, using sponging, splotches, spritzes, etc to unify them. Awesomely Artistic is the greatest set if you like collage stamping!
  • The sentiment is from the Happy Birthday Everyone stamp set and it is BIG, BOLD, and BEAUTIFUL! Of course, with a busy background, you need a large bold sentiment or it would get lost.
  • The Lots of Labels Framelit Dies are my current most popular set. I used the same size for the greeting and the backing. I just used my old trick of cutting the backing in half and mounting each end on the ends of the sentiment.
There you have it! Happy Birthday, Sandi!

Autumn Themed Card for As You See It Challenges

When I saw that As You See It Challenge #057 was an autumn theme, I groaned inwardly because I've been doing fall themed cards for it seems like weeks now and my inspiration is running kind of dry, but then I started thinking about it and I decided to do a layered collage background with emboss resist.  Kinda Eclectic was my choice because of the leaves that I love to emboss and some of the background elements as well.  I also dug out Gorgeous Grunge and Bordering Blooms for some help in the background.

I also found that Colour Throwdown Challenge #313 had some very fall-looking colours so I decided to use their swatch for this card as well.

Those are some very vibrant colours so I knew I'd need to tone them down a bit with a neutral and I chose Sahara Sand because its coolness works well with all those warm colours.

  • For the background, I sponged three of the four challenge colours on Whisper White in areas. The shades I used were Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie and Crushed Curry.  Then I stamped some background images from Gorgeous Grunge, Kinda Eclectic and Bordering Blooms in Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie and Sahara Sand.
  • I took the leaves image from Kinda Eclectic and stamped it in VersaMark Ink several times on top of the sponging and images.  I was going for a whirling leaves kind a pattern but it's hard to tell really.  I added some Clear Embossing powder and heat set it.  Then I stamped the leaves image a few more times around the outside edge and this time added Gold Embossing Powder and heat set it with the Heat Tool.
  • The next step was to sponge over the whole panel with Blackberry Bliss Ink, then wipe the ink off the embossing.  You get leaf images, but you can see through them to the layers below when you wipe off the Blackberry Bliss.  The Gold embossing just stands out on its own.
  • I used the distressed label stamp from Everything Eleanor and inked it up in Sahara Sand and stamped it on Whisper White.  Then the sentiment from Kinda Eclectic was stamped on it in Blackberry Bliss and it was hand cut and mounted on the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.  Add a little linen thread bow and a Gold Basic Metal Button, and you have an out-of -the-ordinary Fall card!

I want to wish all my Canadian readers a Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!  Eat lots of turkey and pumpkin pie and enjoy your families!  Thanks for dropping by today!
