Snow Globe Scenes Dies as a Wedding Card!

This past week, I had a unique experience that I will remember for a long time. I was invited along with the other members of our refugee sponsor group to attend the wedding of one of the older girls in the Syrian family we brought to Canada a year and a half ago. It was a little sudden and a bit of a surprise so we didn't have much notice and we had to travel to Vancouver for the celebration so we went down on Thursday and returned home on Friday.

But it was quite a cultural education for us and so good to see our sponsored family again. We've been really missing them now that they are so far away. They are doing really well and the move was a good one for them.

I wanted to make a beautiful card for the bride, Marwa, and I had just seen a gorgeous one in white using the Snow Globe Scenes Dies on Facebook. It was created by Heike Fallwicki, and since I just ordered and received the Still Scenes Bundle which contains these dies, I decided to CASE her card for the wedding card. Here's how it turned out:

  • Heike's card used the church image inside the shaker globe and I tried at first to turn the church into a mosque, since Marwa and her new husband are Muslim. It looked amazing, but then I wondered if it was culturally responsible to feature the image of a mosque on a card and if that would even represent a wedding to a Muslim, so I opted instead to go with floral images.
  • To do this I used die cuts in Whisper White, using the Bouquet Bunch dies and the Frosted Bouquet dies for the flowers and foliage, as well as the Leaf Punch. I mounted them all on a circle of Pool Party Paper, die cut with the largest Stitched Shapes Circle die using glue dots and small pieces of Mini Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • I cut a similar stitched circle with the same die from Whisper White cardstock and used the snow globe inner outline die to cut a hole in it for the Snow Globe Dome. You pull off the top film to expose the adhesive on the top and press this white cardstock circlet over top of the dome and pressing it down on the adhesive on top of the rim of the dome. It must be flipped then and filled with the Ice Stampin' Glitter. I feel I used too much of it and next time would cut it back by at least half.
  • The blue circle was flipped over so that the flowers would be inside the dome and the seal on the bottom adhesive on the dome removed so I could seal it onto the blue circle. The glitter is now trapped inside. The excess seal on the snow globe dome had to be trimmed away as it was larger than the largest circle die SU has.
  • Two designs of a retired laser cut paper (Delightfully Detailed) were layered on top of the Thick Whisper White card base, rather than just using the laser cut paper as the card front. The reason for this is because I wanted to add a gift card holder on the indside that I didn't want to show to the outside. The retired Gift Card Holder Dies created that.
  • I also used some retired Pool Party shimmer Ribbon to embellish the card front and to fasten the gift card holder.
  • The sentiments are from the Special Celebrations stamp set.

Frosted Frames and Beautiful Boughs for As You See It Challenges

There are just so many beautiful products in the new Holiday Catalogues, that I can't seem to stop wanting more, even though I'm trying my darnedest to behave myself. Just when I think that I've talked myself out of needing a particular stamp or die set, I'll see something beautiful using it on one sharing site or another and BOOM! Just like that, my self-control has dwindled to nothing!

Well, the Peaceful Boughs Bundle was one set that I had had my eye on since the catalogue first came out, but fiscal concerns kept me from purchasing it in my original pre-order. Then I thought I could live without it until I kept seeing great creations on Pinterest and Demonstrator Sharing sites. I finally had to order it, but I'm not sure if it was by mistake or design, but I only ordered the Beautiful Boughs die set. That may do it for me, I don't know! We'll have to wait and see.

I made this card for As You See It Challenge's Fill In The Blank Challenge #209:

The way that I filled in the blank for this challenge is: My go to die or punch that I use the most often is: The Stitched Rectangles Dies! They are found in the Annual Catalogue and have pretty well replaced the Stitched Shapes dies as my go to set, although not by much.

Here's a close look at my Design Team sample:

  • The Stitched Rectangle die was used for the small copper rectangle. If you look closely you can see the edging of stitches around it. It has also been embossed with the new Hammered Metal 3D Embossing Folder from the Holiday Catalogue, which gives a stunning effect!!
  • The background paper is from the Brightly Gleaming Specialty Designer Series Paper. This DSP has mainly dark rich colours and one side of each sheet has metallic copper highlights.
  • The Beautiful Boughs dies are great for layering and you can make two different sizes of pine cones. I used the large size here. I used Shaded Spruce cardstock and Vellum for the branches.
  • Beautiful Boughs also has a couple of awesome label dies, one of which I used here for the sentiment, which is from the Perfectly Plaid stamp set.

Don't forget about our Designer Series Paper sale during the month of September. Buy 3 packages of DSP and get another package free. The details are below:

Something Old, Something New for Fab Friday

For my Technique Night classes this month we are focusing on Coordinating with the new Holiday Catalogue; in other words, using our existing products and supplies from the Annual Catalogue and working them in with the new products from the  Holiday Catalogue! Each year, I hate how as soon as the Holiday and Occasions Catalogues come out, everyone forgets about the Annual Catalogue. We just don't get enough time with the amazing products in it until we move on to other things. So this year, I was determined to coordinate the new with the old! So no one is getting married, we're just 'marrying' the two catties so to speak.

My project today shares the amazing Designer Series Paper Come To Gather along with the old Seasonal Layers Dies and the new Frosted Frames Dies and wraps it up with a sentiment from Painted Harvest stamp set. It makes a great combination, don't you think??

My layout comes from Fab Friday's latest sketch:

Here's a closer look:

  • The background designer paper is from the Come To Gather DSP package, but there is one more element from that paper as well. Can you guess? Yes, it's the 3 pumpkins on the front that I fussy cut to add to the project from another design in the series. These are unusual colours for fall designer paper, but they also have patterns in rich Merry Merlot and Cajun Craze, which are more traditional.
  • I die cut maple leaves and other foliage from Mint Macaron and Pretty Peacock cardstock using the Seasonal Layers dies and the  Frosted Frames dies and layered it behind the pumpkins which are adhered with glue dots and Stampin' Dimensionals.
  • The ribbon is Scalloped Linen Ribbon in Pretty Peacock and the little twine bow is made from the Mint Macaron twine from the Nature's Twine collection.
