Newsprint and Lace for As You See It Challenges

I just love As You See It Challenges' Assortment Challenges, and that's just what we have for you this Friday. The challenge is to fit every one of the elements into your design. This one includes newsprint, lace, pink, butterfly and shiny, and I had a lot of fun trying to incorporate them all.

What type of challenges are your favourites?

Let's see how I handled each element:

  • For the pink, I didn't tiptoe around, I came out boldly with Melon Mambo in both cardstock and ink! I love the crisp contrast with the Whisper White.
  • The newsprint effect is created using the Dictionary Background stamp and a technique I call "Whisper Background Stamping". It consists of laying the cardstock very lightly on the inked up background stamp and lightly touching only certain areas of the paper with your fingers. I did a video tutorial on this technique that you can watch here. For this card, I used Sahara Sand ink and then I added a splotch or two of Melon Mambo with the Gorgeous Grunge images, but all in the bottom right area.
  • The lace and butterfly elements were combined with the lace butterfly stamp from Butterfly Basics stamp set, which I stamped in Melon Mambo Ink on Whisper White, and die cut using the Butterfly Thinlits, which should be available very soon. If you've been waiting forever for yours, thanks to the dock strike, Stampin' Up! feels your pain, and has added a great promotion to help make it up to you. Click on the link above for all the details.
  • Finally, shiny is achieved using Rhinestone Basic Jewels in random groupings to catch the light and make everything sparkle! The sentiment is from Butterfly Basics and is stamped in Sahara Sand.
I hope you'll take on this challenge as well and see what you can come up with. Enjoy your weekend!
