From Land to Sea for Guys

'Tis the season! For guy cards that is! Mind you, two of my favourite new stamp sets are more masculine designs, so you're getting a good look at them over the next few days. But we had a birthday dinner to go to last night for a friend of ours and I needed a good guy card, so I assembled my new stamp set, From Land to Sea. I was so excited to find a stamp set with a lighthouse this catalogue! We've needed one for a long time. This card also uses Work of Art and Gorgeous Grunge, as well as Guy Greetings just to create this seascape! I decided that I might as well enter this card in The Paper Player's Masculine Card Challenge as a second entry.

  • The lighthouse image is just a lighthouse, without land or sea to hold it up, so I had to create that somehow. I got out Work of Art for that purpose and used the wide brush stroke stamp to create the land using Tip Top Taupe ink. Then I used the "swoosh" stroke stamp (the long one) to create the waves, using Mint Macaron and Bermuda Bay inks.
  • I used an Aqua Painter to paint the lighthouse, stamped in Night of Navy, with Real Red ink and a little Crushed Curry at the top. Then I restamped the image on a sticky note and hand cut it creating a mask for the lighthouse. That's when I added the land as explained above, but used the Aqua Painter to add a little more Tip Top Taupe in the "stamp shadow" right next to the sticky note, and to add some darker areas on the land.
  • The sky was completed using a 1 3/4" Scallop Circle, punched from scrap cardstock and a Stamping Sponge with Soft Sky ink. The birds are hand drawn with a Basic Gray Stampin' Write Marker.
  • Then I carefully rubbed the whole thing with the Embossing Buddy, and stamped the large splotch and the splatter images from Gorgeous Grunge in Versamark ink on the sea and in the sky and covered it with White Stampin' Emboss Powder, then heat set it with the Heat Tool. This created the seafoam that you see as waves crash against the cliffs.
  • The sentiment is from Guy Greetings and it was stamped in Night of Navy ink and die cut using one of the Project Life Cards and Labels framelits and I also die cut two more of the same shape from a Silver Foil Sheet. I cut the two ends off of one of the shapes and mounted it on the bottom of the sentiment, offset by about 1/8". The other shape was offset 1/8" at the top.

  4. Okay first off how did you look at the gorgeous grunge splotch and say "this would make great wave spray". Well I am here to say it is absolute genius! I thought it was a watercolor card but then when I read the description I was blown away! I am so impressed with this card! And if it is okay I would like to CASE the wave spray technique. Genius! Just genius..
