Card Front Builder for Colour Throwdown

Whew! It's been a wonderful but tiring week! I will be saying good-bye this morning to the last of my daughters to leave and the house will be silent once more except for the memories of the little voices and squeals and laughter that took over everything the last eight days or so. It hasn't been without some problems though. My middle daughter and her hubby were on their way home from an afternoon out together while we watched their kids, when a driver ran a red light and hit them. They were at the last intersection before home, too! Their car was totaled, although they only had minor injuries, thank heavens. The rest of their visit was mostly taken up with hunting for a new car, new car seats, insurance and police reports (they were assigned 0% blame) and that kind of spoiled the amount of time we could spend together. On the other hand, I got lots of one-on-one time with my grandsons and granddaughter this week and that has been priceless! Love all the hugs and snuggles!

But back to reality and I wanted to use some products from the Carols of Christmas bundle to create a sample to show you today, and to convince you that you absolutely need this in your holiday greeting toolbox this year. There are sooo many possibilities for using it. I had thought to pair the Card Front Builder Thinlits with some of the stamps from the Carols of Christmas stamp set that you can purchase early from the 2017 Holiday Catalogue, but I ended up only using the Thinlits and pairing them with a sentiment from Merry Mistletoe.

The folks over at Color Throwdown #455 have a beautiful colour challenge this week and, even though it's not a traditional Christmas palette, I thought it would look beautiful in a snow scene. Here's the inspiration banner:
Here's how my card turned out:

  • Over the base of thick Whisper White cardstock, I added a piece of regular Whisper White brayered with gradients of Flirty Flamingo, Sweet Sugarplum and Bermuda Bay, my best estimates of the colours in the inspiration banner. Believe it or not, it was my first time using the sponge brayer that Stampin' Up! has now and I was surprisingly impressed. I felt it was easier to get good coverage without a lot of lines with this than with the old hard brayer.
  • With the Card Front Builder Thinlits, I die cut the moon and stars and the fir trees from another piece of Whisper White that was 1/8" less in width and length. The sponged paper showed up in the spaces die cut and around the edge in a thin border.
  • I stamped the sentiment from the Merry Mistletoe stamp set by inking it up in Flirty Flamingo, then adding some Sweet Sugarplum part way up and some Bermuda Bay ink at the top.
  • I embossed the whole layer with the Softly Falling Embossing Folder and added it to the card front on top of the brayered layer.

  • The trees that had been die cut, I covered with Embossing Paste as if it had been snow settling on the branches and the ground, then sprinkled some Dazzling Diamonds Glitter over it, before heating it with the Heat Tool to puff it up and dry it . I mounted them with dimensionals off-setting them over the negative openings made when die-cutting. I wish the photos did justice to the sparkly snow here.
