Game On for a Masculine Pop Up Cube Card

I haven't made one of these pop up cube cards for a couple of months now, and I thought I was over them, but on of my SIL's birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks and he likes to play chess. In fact, he taught my oldest grandson to play, too, so I wanted to use the Game On stamp set for his card. As I looked at it, planning my layout, I realized that it would be great on a pop up cube card and there I was, right back in the middle of my obsession again.

I decided that the World of Good Specialty Designer Series Paper would work well with this set and I also got out my special home-mixed Brass embossing powder to use on all the images and sentiments to match the metallic highlights in the DSP. Here's a closer look at the opened card:

  • The chess pieces and the sentiment are embossed with the Brass embossing powder that I concocted, as mentioned previously. The chess pieces are fussy cut and mounted on Night of Navy Tailored Tag punched piece.
  • The sentiment is also on Whisper White cardstock punched with the Tailored Tag punch. The cubes are decorated with panels of Brass Brush Metallic Cardstock topped with the World of Good Specialty DSP and plain World of Good Specialty DSP inside.

  • The back of the cubes is also adorned with a stamped image and sentiment from the stamp set embossed in brass. They are mounted on a 2" Circle Punch piece.
  • This whole piece can be folded flat to be fit into the custom envelope:

  • I created a larger than average envelope size because these pop up cards are thicker than average!

  • The envelope measure 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" square. It is so easy to make. I cut a piece of Night of Navy cardstock 9" x 5" and scored at 4 1/2 " on the 9" side and at 1/4" and at 4 3/4" on the 5" side.
  • The 1/4" flap on each side was only needed on half of the length of the envelope, so you trim it away where it isn't needed.
  • Then all that's needed is for adhesive to be added to the flaps and the envelope is folded in half and the sides sealed together, and DSP and label added.

The interesting thing is that my stepmom has her birthday the same day, so check in on Monday for her birthday card! Neither of them read my blog so it's safe to post them here! Have a great weekend!
