Unless you've been sleeping under a rock, you will have been following the devastating news along with the rest of the world of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and of the bravery and desperation of the Ukrainian people. I have been heartsick about it as well as anxious about where it will all end. I applaud the determination of the Ukrainian people as they fight back against enormous odds and slow down the Russian war machine. I pray that the world's condemnation of this unprovoked aggression by Russian will have the effect of bringing about a ceasefire and, ultimately, peace.
But, as a cardmaker, I best express my thoughts through my craft, so I made a card for Ukrainians everywhere. I used the sketch from The Paper Players' sketch challenge #580 :
My card uses Pacific Point and Daffodil Delight ink blended on Basic White cardstock in imitation of the Ukrainian flag in the background and the Celebrate Sunflowers image on the front as the national flower of the Ukraine.
- The embossed background is dry embossed using the Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder.
- I used Blending Brushes to add Pacific Point ink (top) and Daffodil Delight ink (bottom) to a 3" x 4 1/4" piece of Basic White cardstock and glued it to the embossed background. The horizontal element was created using White 3/4" Frayed Ribbon.
- The large sunflower image was stamped in Memento ink on Basic White then coloured in using the Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blends Combo and SU300 and SU100 Stampin' Blends. The last two come in the Stampin' Blends Medium Deep Combo and the Stampin' Blends Deep Combo Packs.
- I die cut the sunflower image with the Sunflower Dies and added it to the card front using dimensionals.
- The sentiments are from Quiet Meadow for the Thinking of You, which was heat embossed on Pacific Point cardstock in white embossing powder and fussy cut, mounted with mini dimensionals; and Inspired Thoughts for the bottom sentiment, stamped in Pacific Point ink on Basic White and die cut with the Tasteful Labels dies.
The Mini Stampin' Cut 'n Emboss Machine is on sale for the whole month of March for 20% off, which means it is just $65.50 in Canada! And along with it, there are a whole lot of bundles whose dies work with the Mini that are 20% off as well! What a great promotion!
