Thoughtful Expressions for As You See It Challenge #315

thoughtful expressions for aysi #315 1

I always look forward to colour challenges and this one is no exception. Team Member Heather H. came up with some very beautiful colours and an inspiration photo to go along with it for Challenge #315. Here is the challenge banner:

challenge #315

I have a lot of new stamp sets to try out, paired with their coordinating die sets, but as I looked them over, trying to decided which would be best for these vibrant colours, the Thoughtful Expressions, with it's floral designs and especially with the hummingbird image really rang a bell with me. A hummingbirds has such a
vibrant plumage, often with similar colours, that I thought this could really work. Add in a little Wink of Stella to mimic the luminescence of a hummingbird's feathers, and it's the perfect set for the job!

  • On a cardbase of Basic White thick cardstock, I added a layer of Mossy Meadow cardstock measuring 4" x 5 1/4".  On top of that layer is a piece of Basic White, embossed with the new Softly Sophisticated Embossing Folder which is part of the Softly Sophisticated Bundle, a Level 2 Sale-A-Bration reward. This layer measures 3 7/8" x 5 1/8".
  • The next layer is Melon Mambo cardstock and measures 3 1/2" x 4 3/4".
  • On a 3 1/4" x 4 1/2" piece of Basic White, I stamped the two images you see in StazOn ink and coloured them in with Stampin' Write markers. I didn't use Stampin' Blends because I don't have Melon Mambo in that medium. It's been a long time since I've used my Stampin' Write markers to colour in an image and they did a very vibrant job I think!
  • I went over the coloured images with Wink of Stella to add some "luminescence".
  • I stamped the sentiment in Mossy Meadow and die cut the sentiment and an accompanying backer in Granny Apple Green using the Thoughtful Expressions Dies. I adhered them together as I liked and used dimensionals to attach them to the card front.
  • Finally I added some Glossy Dots Assortment to the card front.

  1. So glorious, Heather! I have hesitated to nibble on this one, I honestly worry I couldn't color it right - and yours definitely shows me the way! Your sweet little man is a twin to the Anna's on my feeder right now! Beautiful!

    1. Thanks, Heather! Wait, you have hummingbirds at your feeder right now?!! I'm so jealous, as I sit in a foot of snow! (Well, not literally. I do have a house!)

    2. Hah, I even have 3 different kinds fighting over it this time of year, as opposed to the more usual 5 when it's warmer, lol. I read somewhere that AZ boasts the widest range of hummingbirds species in North America, eight {gasp}, and while some do migrate even further south, not all do, lucky me! Anyway, my Granny Apple DSP was from LAST year's DSP color stacks - loved those patterns so much!

  2. I love the layering of this. The addition of both the accent colour and texture helps to accentuate the beauty of the centre image. The Wink of Stella does add a lovely shimmer to the humming bird. What a great project!

    1. Thanks, Jan! It was a whim, like many of my projects, "Wait, those colours would work on a hummingbird wouldn't they? And if I added Wink of Stella, that would make the hummingbird sparkle like hummingbirds do....."

  4. Wowza...this is a stunner. The challenge colors are really bold but perfect for these images. I think my favorite part of the card is how you showcased the sentiment! This card is a beauty!

  5. How fabulous Heather - these colours are so perfect for a hummingbird and your images are coloured beautifully - a world away from the snow you are experiencing, for sure! I love the pops of colours from the layered frame/sentiment label too. Gorgeous!
