Simply Succulents for New At SU Blog Hop

new at su march blog hop 1

Welcome to our March NEW AT SU! Blog hop! We are a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world who are Hoppin’ with creative paper crafting ideas to share with you. Today we are showcasing the 2021 Jan/Jun Mini Catalogue about halfway into it's sales period and reminding you of it's diversity and versatility and just plain fun. Today I am featuring the Simply Succulents bundle and also showing you the White Wash Technique!

  • The White Wash technique involves embossing the image in white on Crumb Cake cardstock, filling it all in with a wash of Whisper White Craft Ink, and letting it dry, then adding colour to the images with Stampin' Write Markers and a Blender Pen. To see how this technique is done you can watch this video that I posted on Monday:

  • I started with the filler or background step of the two step stamping process. I used quite a bit of water on it and after stamping, I used a Water Painter to spread the ink even further and blur the outline of the image a bit more.

  • The background was created using the large succulents die for a mask and adding some Shimmery White Embossing Paste to some Basic White Thick cardstock through the die mask.
  • The White Wash technique works best on Crumb Cake cardstock for some reason. I embossed the images on the Crumb Cake in White Embossing Powder and then covered them with a runny wash of water and Whisper White craft ink.
  • After that wash dries, I added a simple link or dot of colour from a Stampin' Write marker in an area of the image and blend it into the craft ink using a Blender Pen.
  • The sentiment is from the Simply Succulents stamp set and is die cut using one of the Potted Succulents dies.

White Wash Technique for Monday Morning Live

white wash technique for monday morning live 1

Today, on my Monday Morning Live Facebook post, I will be sharing my favourite colouring technique, the White Wash Technique. It's a perfect one to use with the Simply Succulents stamp set because it creates a really pastel effect with whatever colours you are using. It involves embossing an image in White Stampin' Emboss Powder on Crumb Cake cardstock and then white washing it with a runny mixture of water and Whisper White Craft Ink. Once that dries, you use Stampin' Write markers and a Blender Pen to blend the ink from the markers with the white craft ink giving a very pleasing pastel effect. You can watch me demonstrate this on the video after I upload it here.

Here's a closer look at the final result:

  • I wanted to create a pastel on white look, so I started with a thick Basic White cardstock base, and I used another 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" piece of Thick Basic White cardstock to die cut the large succulent design for the background. I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue to add that to the card base.
  • On a piece of 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" piece of Crumb Cake cardstock I stamped the images of the large succulents, the pot, and the medium single succulent in Versamark Ink and heat embossed them with White Stampin' Emboss Powder, using the Heat Tool.
  • Using a Water Painter and some White Craft Ink from the Refill, I made a runny wash and painted over all the images with the craft ink. I then let it dry completely. (I helped it along with the heat tool on the low setting.)
  • Using Stampin' Write Markers, I added small lines of colour on each leaf or area of the succulents and blended the ink into the white using a Blender Pen. I used Mint Macaron, Soft Sea Foam, Highland Heather and Purple Posy.
  • Once these were dry, I die cut the images using the Potted Succulents Dies and assembled them as shown above. The extra leaves at the top were die cut from Soft Sea Foam cardstock measuring 4 1/4" x 2 3/4".
  • I used a scrap piece of Crumb Cake to heat emboss the sentiment from the Simply Succulents stamp set with White Stampin' Emboss Powder and die cut it with the small label die from the Potted Succulents dies.
  • Everything was added to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.
Stay tuned on Wednesday and Friday, because I'm planning to use this same technique all week. Wednesday will be with this same stamp set, Simply Succulents for the  What's New at SU Blog Hop at 1 pm. That one has a different idea for a White on White background. On Friday, I will use it with the Butterfly Bouquet Suite, which you can still get.
