From Land to Sea By the Tide for As You See It Challenges

So the world has wound its way around to Friday again! Do you ever want to go out, stop traffic and yell, "Slow it down, Life! You know what it is you're hurtling toward, don't you? Don't be in such a hurry!" Let's start a "Slow Down Life" Movement, you and I! Get those babies to stop growing up so fast. Make sure those toddlers toddle for a little longer. And if we could have time accomodate our lives, let's have the clock tick more slowly when we're having fun and speed up when we're living through difficult circumstances! Make it so, Number One*!
(*Trekkie reference!)

But it is Friday again, and time for another As You See It Challenge and I had some fun with this one. Here's Amanda's great sketch:

And I used the colour swatch from The Paper Player's latest challenge:

although I did add 3 neutrals for backgrounds as well.

  • Whenever I get colour blocks like Amanda included on this sketch, I want to get out my clear blocks and use them as stamps, stamping off once to lighten them up. The colours I used were Tip Top Taupe, Sahara Sand, and Crumb Cake. The blocks on the design were smaller in most cases than the clear mount blocks I used so I arranged the blocks on the paper and marked off where I wanted to ink them up to, then only used the stamp pad to that point. Worked like a dream!
  • I used images from both By the Tide Stamp Set and From Land to Sea Stamp Set to overlay designs over the colour block, using Island Indigo, Pool Party and Real Red ink. I had to mask bits of the coral so that it wouldn't extend too far beyond the colour block. I did this by taking the clear mount block I used for that colour block and arranging it on top of the coral stamp and taping off around the block leaving just a bit over the edges. I inked it up in Real Red and pulled off the tape, then stamped carefully.
  • The sentiment is from Guy Greetings. This will be a Father's Day Card for my hubby and a great last minute card for someone to make for their dad or hubby.
  • Then there was the problem of the Baker's Twine bow in the challenge sketch. Since my design is one layer, I couldn't just wrap some twine around the vertical panel. I tried several solutions, but none of them looked right . I finally just tied a simple reef knot in some retired Coastal Cabana Thick Baker's Twine, glued it and the ends on to the vertical colour block and trimmed the ends, adding a tiny bit of glue to the ends to keep them from fraying.
Have a great weekend with your dads, husbands, sons and join me again on Monday morning with another Freshly Made Sketches design!
