Cake Soiree and Happy Wishes for Freshly Made Sketches

Had some fun with some of my new stamp sets yesterday afternoon. I wanted to try out my double stamp set, Happy Wishes, which is one of the Level Two Sale-A-Bration rewards, meaning you can earn it when you spend $120 on one order, before tax & shipping. It has some awesome sentiments that go along with two more decorative large sentiments and you can mix and match to make sayings for virtually any occasion. But the large panel needed something more so I added a birthday cake from the Cake Soiree stamp set, also a double set. And to get the effect I wanted on the "Best" sentiment, I decided I was going to use the baby wipes technique to make my own multicoloured stamp set.

I'm entering this card in the Freshly Made Sketches Challenge #319, which looks like this:

This is a nice open sketch which allows you to do almost anything, yet you can still keep things clean and fresh. Take a closer look at what I decided to do with it:

  • I chose a bit of a tropical palette for this card. I think it's a secret cry for rescue from the snow and cold and grey skies.
  • With Thick Whisper White cardstock for the card base, I added on a layer of Calypso coral cardstock, embossed with the Layered Leaves Dynamic Embossing Folder. Then I added a layer from the Bubbles & Fizz Designer Series paper, which is horizontal Bermuda Bay stripes.
  • I stamped my Whisper White cardstock panel with the Best stamp from Happy Wishes. To get the shaded tones, I took out a bunch of baby wipes and folded them to make a sort of stamp pad. I added the colours I wanted from reinkers (see colours above.) Then I used it like a stamp pad, getting that variation of colour shading from top to bottom. It's an easy technique and fun to use.
  • I stamped the cake at the top of the same panel and coloured in the floral designs with my Stampin' Blends alcohol markers. Even with the fine tips though, some of these designs were just too small to be totally accurate. The Colour Lifter came in handy, but couldn't get it pristine, however it still looks good. By the way, when using the Stampin' Blends, you need to stamp the black image using Memento Tuxedo Black Ink so that it won't run or bleed. The other sentiments were also stamped with this ink.
  • The die cut top sentiment was cut with the label from the Petals & More Thinlits. I cropped it down smaller so that you could see the Calypso Coral backing.

Last May, I helped to host a 1 Day Craft Retreat in the spacious, sunny lobby of our church, to raise money to support a Syrian Refugee Family we are sponsoring and hoping will finally make it to Canada by the summer. I am repeating that event this coming Saturday, March 3, from 9 AM to         9 PM. The lobby is a great space for crafting and space is filling up fast. Lunch and dinner will be provided and everyone will be asked to bring snacks to share. The cost is $50 per person. Here is the link where you can register:  1 Day Craft Retreat! There will be goodie bags, make & takes, the meals I mentioned, beverages, and challenges to play during the day! Plus great door prizes! Don't wait too long to register!

Click on the links below to take you to my On-Line Store, where you can read about, look at, and purchase if you wish, the products used to make this card today.
