Winter Woods and Forest Fires in BC

I just got back from a week long visit with my youngest daughter and her family. We were helping her with some kitchen renos. Well, my hubby was helping her. I was babysitting. I did try my hand at doing some tiling, but it turns out that I'm as big a clutz with a mastic trowel as I am with a paint brush, so I went back to looking after my two grandsons. After I got all the mastic out of my nails and hair and clothes, that is.

The night before we left home, I got my Holiday Catalogue Pre-Order. I had just enough time to open it and drool over everything, and then I had to leave it at home!! Do you know how hard that was? Especially seeing all the gorgeous samples on line and not being able to play with all my new toys for a whole week! Sheer torture! Luckily, grandsons are a great antidote.

Me, Jaimie, Jack and Parker having an ice cream break from renos!

So one of the first things I did yesterday was to get out one of my favourite new stamp sets, Winter Woods*, and the accompanying In The Woods Framelits* to make a card to show you. I guess it could be a Christmas card after I promised you I wouldn't post any more, but it doesn't have to be. It could be a different season:

Like in BC, where I live, it could be Forest Fire Season, as our summers are now beginning to be known. Our whole province (which is twice the size of California) is now in a state of emergency due to the number of wild fires burning. One of the largest is burning near where my middle daughter lives and she and her family have had to evacuate, mostly because the fire is in danger of cutting off their only road access out. So we really are "Thinking of them this Season", as the sentiment states! And praying!
Kesten and Cedar in the back with all their worldly goods for evacuation!

  • The new Designer Series Paper in the background is the Joyous Noel Specialty DSP*. Beautiful neutrals plus copper foil accents and Tranquil Tide. It works so well with Winter Woods stamp set*.
  • The tree from Winter Woods* has been stamped twice in Tranquil Tide then die cut once with the outline die and once with the thinlit that creates the cut pine boughs, from the In The Woods Framelits*. The latter is mounted on the first with the images matched up even though the thinlit doesn't cut the stamped image exactly. It creates a fluffy three dimensional tree.
  • The sentiment is embossed with Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder and punched out with the Pretty Label Punch. Then the label is sponged around the edge with Versamark Ink and the edged covered in Copper Embossing Powder again and heat set to give an edging to the plain white label. I did something I haven't done for ages - I added a copper metallic brad to the label, which you can now order again! Love it!
  • I used the new Sprig Punch* to punch sprigs to back the sentiment label and added a piece of Shaded Spruce 1/8" Metallic Ribbon from the Combo for the finish!

  1. I'd swap pre-order goodies for grandchildren too... probably! Forest fires seem to be a real problem over large parts of North America. I hope you and all your family stay safe. Lovely card too.

  2. I like that little moment of hesitation, Jan! I felt it, too! It's really beginning to feel apocalyptic in many parts of BC right now. I'm afraid it's the reality of climate change upon us! We need rain!!
