DistINKtive Butterfly Wishes!

It was time to try out another of my new stamp sets from the new 2019-2020 Annual Catalogue, *Butterfly Wishes, which happens to be a DistINKtive set. This is the first time I cracked open one of my new ink pads, as well, *Terracotta Tile.

But for a relatively simple design, I have to say that this card took me an inordinate amount of time! I really struggled with the options and with the DistINKtive stamps, to the point that I stamped that image panel at least 5 times before I got something I was happy with. I think my new *Terracotta Tile ink pad was too juicy, and even though I stamped off lightly, my butterfly still had issues at times with tiny blobs of ink where they were not wanted. I finally got the touch right and it was worth it for that photorealistic look. The tree branch with the blossoms was good from square one! I really love that stamp! The single blossom stamp, however, was another troublemaker. Stamping off was my friend with that one! The second, smaller butterfly stamped beautifully right from the start.

It also took me a while to settle on a colour palette for the card. I knew I wanted to pair Petal Pink and Terracotta Tile, but I also tried *Rococo Rose and Pool Party in the mix and something wasn't working. I eventually eliminated the *Rococo Rose and things were good, but I also tried incorporating the Pool Party in the images, not just the sentiment and that didn't fly either. Finally, I had the design, but it just looked too plain, so I sponged the right side and the top with some Petal Pink to add a kind of misty, dream-like look to it.

  1. I love that dreamy look that the sponging has created - wonderful. This stamp set looks amazing. It's true that distINKtive stamps and new ink pads don't play nicely together but stamping off is a great way to get them acquainted!

  3. Your card is stunning!! This was one of the first stamp sets I ordered. You have lit a fire under me to ink it up. Your color palette makes me what to have one of those Creamsicle Popsicles. Yum!! Thank you for sharing your layout.

Carol, I'm glad I've motivated you to ink up that stamp set. I hope you have fun with it. I love the comparison of my palette to a Creamsicle! That's exactly what it looks like! Now, I'm craving one, too!
