I love spring and I think the biggest part of that is seeing the new life springing up from the ground and budding on the barren tree branches. This morning, As You See It Challenges has posted a new challenge, a Fill In The Blank Challenge. For a Fill In the Blank challenge, you fill in the blank to complete the statement the way that you would finish it. Then you use those words as the basis to make your project.
Here's this week's challenge, created by Design Team member Jane:
So my favourite first flowers of spring are fruit tree blossoms. After all, I live in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, a valley renowned for it's fruit orchards and vineyards. In fact, it's known as Napa Valley North for the world class wines produced here.
So I decided to use the new You're a Peach Suite to make my Design Team sample, but add the Forever Blossom stamp set so I could use a stamp of a tree limb with blossoms on it. They are technically cherry blossoms, but I coloured them as if they were peach blossoms.
- On a Balmy Blue base, I added a piece of You're a Peach DSP with Balmy Blue stripes.
- On the back of that design is one with peach blossoms, so I die cut a scalloped rectangle using the Stitched So Sweetly Dies and added it to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.
- With the Stitched Rectangle dies I die cut a smaller rectangle from Basic Dies and used a Blender Brush to blend some Pale Papaya ink and some Calypso Coral ink on it. I adhered it to the blossom designer paper layer.
- I stamped the Forever Blossom image in Memento ink on Basic White and coloured in the blossoms using the Pale Papaya, Calypso Coral, Crumb Cake and the Old Olive Stampin' Blends Markers Combo Packs. I fussy cut the image in a quite detailed fashion, even cutting between some of the blossoms and leaves so I could get into some of the inside areas.
- I mounted this image on the ink blended panel using glue dots and some Stampin' Dimensionals and Mini Stampin' Dimensionals to pop up some blossoms and buds higher than others and tucking some leaves behind.
- The sentiment is from the Sweet as a Peach stamp set and is stamped with Calypso Coral ink on Basic White and die cut with the narrowest Stitched Rectangle die. It's backed with an extended scalloped rectangle from the Stitched So Sweetly dies.
- Finally, I added some Artistry Blooms Adhesive Backed Sequins.
