Layering Diorama Dies! So Cool!

layering diorama dies 1

Ahoy, maties! I be in a sea-farin' mood today and ready to explore the ocean deeps, all the way down to Davy Jones' locker! And I'm doing that with the Layering Diorama Dies, new in the 2021-2022 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue!! These dies had me fascinated from the moment I saw them used in the catalogue and now I'm searching for stamp sets and dies to use them with. But, if you know me, you know that I have an affinity for coastal themes, so I combined three stamp sets and one set of dies to use with the Diorama Dies to create a seascape with incredible depth, just like a diorama!

The Layering Dioramas are the subject of my Monday Morning Facebook Live at 11 am PDT, so join me at my Playing with Papercrafting Facebook page for this card:

  • I combined three different stamp sets here: Sailing Home, Whale Done and the new Seascape for the images. I used the Smooth Sailing dies to die cut the lighthouse, the ship's wheel, the anchor and the seaweed. The turtle, from Whale Done, was fussy cut.
  • The card base was Bermuda Bay which you can see at the back of the diorama as the darkest colour. On it I embossed coral from Seascapes and a seahorse from Whale Done in White Stampin' Emboss Powder.
  • The next layer is Coastal Cabana, and though you can't see it in the photo, there are some wee fishes stamped on there in Bermuda Bay ink. The image is from the Whale Done stamp set. The sea turtle, also from Whale Done was fussy cut and attached to this layer with a glue dot at the back and a Mini Dimensional at the front.
  • Pool Party is next and I embossed the coral from Whale Done in White Stampin' Emboss Powder on that layer.
  • The next layer is Soft Sea Foam and on it, I stamped the larger fishes image from Sea Scape in Just Jade ink. I also attached the seaweed, die cut from Just Jade and Soft Sea Foam cardstock with the die from Smooth Sailing dies.
  • Finally, the outside cover is Sahara Sand, embossed with the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder after the diorama die has cut the hole in it. Then the lighthouse is stamped in Gray Granite and die cut with the Smooth Sailing die and adhered to the bottom left side using glue dots, the anchor is stamped in Gray Granite on Gray Granite cardstock and die cut with the same die set and adhered top right, and finally the ship's wheel is die cut from Soft Suede, using the same dies and adhered just over and to the left of the anchor.
  • The sentiment is stamped in Just Jade ink and die cut with the small banner from Smooth Sailing Dies.
