Beauty of the Earth Suite with Alcohol Ink Blending Techniques

beauty of the earth suite 1

I felt I needed to get going showing you more of the new catalogue, so I got out the new Beauty of the Earth Suite to play around with. I feel like it a predominantly autumn suite, but I wanted to make a spring card, since all the fruit trees are in bloom where I live right now and our lilac tree is nearly blooming. So I decided to try some different alcohol ink blending techniques to get some spring blossom colours into the mix.

A while back I experimented with using Stampin' Blends markers on vellum and spritzing them with alcohol to get this effect:

I had several vellum panels left with this technique and one had some beautiful spring colours from the Stampin' Blends including Flirty Flamingo, Highland Heather and Mango Melody. Basically you colour all over the vellum with the colours you want to use and then spritz it with a minimum 90%+ concentration of isopropyl alcohol and let it dry. The colours pool and blend and then dry rapidly.

  • On a Soft Suede card base I added a piece of the Beauty of the Earth Designer Series Paper. This was the second one I tried. The first design was just clouds in a blue sky, but the card ended up looking too bland, so I tried this design and liked it much better.
  • I added the die cut of the tree trunk and branches in Soft Suede cardstock.
  • Then I got and 3 1/3" sq. piece of Shimmery White card stock. I took a large E block and coloured on it using the Polished Pink, Highland Heather and Mango Melody Dark Stampin' Blends. I then spritzed them well with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol in one of our Stampin' Spritzers, left it for a moment for the colours to blend a bit and then pressed the Shimmery White cardstock square on top of it to pick up the colour, then let the cardstock dry.
  • I positioned the leafy canopy die on the inked Shimmery White cardstock and die cut the leaf cover for the tree. It was fairly bland except for the Polished Pink. That's when I decided that if I overlaid the dyed vellum it would look more vibrant.
  • I die cut the leafy canopy again from the dyed vellum and overlaid it on top of the shimmery white one. This gave more intense colour, and some interesting veining. I offset them a little to show what was underneath. The leaves were mounted on Mini Stampin' Dimensionals.

  • I added die cut birds from Misty Moonlight cardstock to the tree, a sentiment from the Beauty of Friendship stamp set stamped in Polished Pink and tagged with some Polished Pink Open Weave Ribbon.
  • The final touch is some 2021 - 2023 In Colour Jewels.
