Beautiful Blizzard for Freshly Made Sketches

Texture! If there's one thing that really sells me on a stamp set, it's texture stamps and this Beautiful Blizzard* set has it in spades! (Maybe snow shovels!) From the blizzardy looking clouds to the wind gusts to the actual snowflakes, it's such an interesting set, that even though I've been thoroughly bored by same old, same old snowflake stamps up until now, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one and actually, on this Beautiful Blizzard Bundle*, where the die is just one large die that die cuts a smorgasbord of snowflakes in one go!

I thought the Bundle* would be a great fit for this week's Freshly Made Sketches' Challenge:

so I played along, in shades of Smoky Slate and Coastal Cabana.

  • Behind the snowflakes, die cut with the Blizzards Thinlit Die*, and the strip of Joyous Noel Specialty Designer Series Paper*, you can see glimpses of the amazingly textured blizzard cloud images made by two of the stamps in the Beautiful Blizzard stamp set*. I used Smoky Slate Ink to stamp them here.
  • I love the sentiment "If a hug were a Snowflake.." that comes in this set as well! It's stamped in Coastal Cabana at the bottom left corner. Because the sketch calls for the sentiment as part of the horizontal strip part way up, I added a coordinating sentiment from Itty Bitty Greetings, and punched it out with the Classic Label Punch.
  • Rhinestone Basic Jewels adorn every snowflake. I like that the snowflakes are all shapes and sizes.

Winter Woods for As You See It Challenge #183

Another Friday has rolled around and I'm looking at the calendar and thinking that summer is almost over and I feel royally cheated! Here in my part of the planet, we've spent most of the summer inundated by smoke from wild fires. So much smoke that it's blotted out the sun and created air quality that is dangerous to go outside in. We don't get a lot of sunshine here other than the summer time. We live where a large lake creates it's own cloud cover in the cold winter months, so if we are cheated out of our summer months of sunshine, that's it for the year except for the odd days in spring or fall when it doesn't rain. Since this is the second year in a row of these conditions, we're starting to think that it's the new normal, and that has us all grieving in some ways for the sun and our regular summer activities. They're actually starting to do studies on the psychological effects of all of this. Climate change is a real thing, people!

Anyway, it is Friday, as I said and time for a new Challenge from As You See It Challenges. It's a sketch challenge by Amanda, entitled Queues, as you'll see by the challenge banner:

As soon as I saw the sketch, I immediately thought of the new Winter Woods* stamp set from the up coming 2018 Holiday Catalogue. There were two possibilities for images I could use: one was a stamp of birch trunks and one is the version you see here:

  • This was actually a very simple card to make. 3 layers, white embossing powder, baker's twine and some rhinestones. I love the effect you get with it. I think it would be effective for a Christmas card undertaking if you wanted to mass produce.
  • Love, love, love these colours together: Petal Pink, Silver, Gray Granite and White.

  • The sentiment is from the Winter Woods* stamp set as well and it worked perfectly with the sketch, fitting perfectly above the trees on the upper right side.
  • The Petal Pink and Silver Baker's Twine was the perfect finishing touch for this sketch along with the scattered Rhinestones.
I'll be going away next week on holidays so this weekend will be your last chance to get in on the August promotions. I'll be camping with spotty internet, so will not be able to submit orders until I get home. Get all orders to me by Sunday at the latest! Here are the August Promos:

Blended Seasons and Watercolour Pencils

The Blended Seasons Bundle and the new Watercolour Pencil Assortment 2 have only 10 more days before they will be unavailable to you. This versatile stamp set and amazing framelit bundle are well worth having in your collection and if you have the original Watercolour Pencils, you're going to want to add these new colours to them. Here's the details of this promotion:

As the season of sweaters and falling leaves approaches, I thought I'd show you another sample of what you can do with this stamp set and die bundle, and I also used the expanded collection of Watercolour Pencils Assortment 2 to colour it with.

  • I stamped the Leaf Image from the Blended Seasons stamp set in the retired Basic Black Archival Ink (still my favourite until I run out of reinker) on Shimmery White cardstock. Shimmery White has a warmer tone than Whisper White and holds up better to watercolouring using the Watercolour pencils and a Blender Pen.
  • I coloured in one set of leaves using Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Cherry Cobbler* watercolour pencils and the other set using Granny Apple Green*, Crushed Curry* and Gorgeous Grape*.  *Part of the expanded colour selection in the promotion.
  • The die cut leaves are from a framelit in the Stitched Seasons Framelits set. I used Gorgeous Grape, Crushed Curry and Cajun Craze for the colours.
  • I die cut the coloured leaves and their Sahara Sand backing using the stitched labels dies in the Stitched Seasons set. These labels are perhaps, the most valuable reason why you should purchase this set. The dies create stitched line on both sides of the cut.
  • The sentiment, stamped in Gorgeous Grape is from the Blended Seasons stamp set as well and punched out with the Tailored Tag Punch.
  • The background on Cajun Craze cardstock is stamped with Versamark in the same leaves image, leaving a watermark type pattern.
I'm happy to put in an order for these products for you if you contact me, or you can place your own order, 24/7 at my On-Line Store.
