Well, here it is, my first Christmas card of the year! And not a moment too soon, either. After all, there are only 135 days until December 25! I decided to work with the *Winter Wonderland Designer Series Paper and it is based on Gold, Whisper White and Basic Black. The design I chose is all white with gold splatters that look like golden snow is falling, so I went with a gold and white theme. And that seemed to work well with Freshly Made Sketches Challenge #199:
Along with that I chose the tree image (which I think is destined to become a classic) from *Wonderland Stamp set. Here's the result:
- I stamped the Wonderland tree image in Versamark ink directly on the Designer Series Paper and covered it with Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder. (Don't forget to use your Embossing Buddy first, especially on this shiny finish paper.) I heat set it with the Heat Tool and then stamped and embossed the sentiment from the *Wonderland set the same way.
- Some Gold Glimmer Paper formed the band at the bottom of the sketch. You will find that either Glue Dots or Fast Fuse are the only adhesives that reliably adhere to the glimmer paper, so I used both at the bottom of the DSP when I glued it to cover the edge of the glimmer paper.
- A banner of Gold Foil, punched with the Triple Banner Punch completed this simple design. Hard to photograph, but very classy looking when completed.
If you can believe it, I had to make this card twice! Between difficulties with trying to adhere the DSP to the Glimmer Paper, adhesive smudges on the Gold Foil and problems with embossing on the shiny paper, I was almost ready to give up and try another design. So even the most simple of designs can give you trouble if you are working with difficult materials. But if you heed the advice of the sadder but wiser crafter here, you can avoid the problems I encountered. In fact, that is what I'm here for, I believe. To make all the mistakes first so I can warn you about them!
