Prized Peony for As You See It Speed Challenge

It's time for another Speed Challenge at As You See It Challenges today and the theme for this speed challenge is Elements of Three, ironically illustrated by three "pears", and entitled Race in Triplicate! Thanks, LeAnne, for this awesome challenge!

If you'll remember, speed challenges mean you have to put a card together in less than 10 minutes. You can design it in your head, get out all your equipment, but the moment you put stamp to ink or start to cut any paper, etc. you must start the timer!

I'm in love with the Peony Garden Designer Series Paper and I thought that the small peony flower in the Prized Peony stamp set was the perfect size to be an element of three, so I decided to use the Peony Garden Suite for my card. It was nip and tuck with the time though, because, by the time I had adhered my last piece to the card the timer had all but run out at 9m 56s. Just under the wire!

Take a closer look:

  • I used a Gray Granite Base with a Petal Pink background piece since those are the two colours this suite is based on.
  • I added two pieces of the Peony Garden Designer Series Paper (DSP) on top of the Petal Pink background and covered the join with a strip of Whisper White cardstock.
  • I stamped 3 of the small peony flowers from the Prized Peony stamp set on some Whisper White in Gray Granite ink and die cut them with the coordinating die from the Peony Dies and added them to the Whisper White strip, adjusting them to be properly spaced and centered. The trick to this is to mount the outer two first and then to add the middle one.
  • I stamped the sentiment from Prized Peony in Petal Pink ink on Whisper White and trimmed it off in a 3/4" strip, cutting it down to a reasonable size, then punching the ends with the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch. I used a coordinating Petal Pink design from the Peony Garden DSP to cut a 1" strip and punch it down with the same punch to back the sentiment. This was mounted with dimensionals.
I was scrambling at the end. I realized I could have cut out several steps by simply stamping the peonies on the white strip and leaving it at that, but it wouldn't have had the same texture I guess. Nevertheless, when speed stamping, KISS - keep it simple, stamper!

  1. This is beautiful Heather. I love the soft colours and your repeating peony. It's funny how once you've made a card it's always easier to see where you could have saved vital seconds second time around!
