Soar Confidently Surprise for As You See It Challenge #252

I came up with a masculine design for As You See It Challenge's Theme Challenge #252 which was called Apply the Y, meaning make a masculine themed project. My original design, which was okay, seemed kind of plain for a Design Team sample though, so I was trying to come up with that little something extra, that "je ne c'est quoi" that would make people take a second look. When I looked at the Soar Confidently stamp set, I found my inspiration. All the images are of air ships of one kind or another, so how about making some of my images float ABOVE the card??

There is really no fancy mechanism involved. It's just strips of Window Sheet acetate, with the fussy cut image on one end and the other end glued to the inside back of the card base, covered by cardstock. Then they are bent over to the inside of the card, given a slight burnish with a bone folder, but not so much as to really bend them, and the card is held shut with a sleeve of Early Espresso Faux Suede Trim, knotted on the front. It can just be slid off the bottom of the card.

  • The card base is Evening Evergreen with a matte of Soft Succulent.
  • I used Very Vanilla cardstock for the image panel and started by blending it over a template I punched with the Ice Cream Cone Builder Punch using the scalloped bottom of the ice cream scoop to create the impression of clouds in the sky. I used both Pool Party and Soft Succulent inks.
  • I used the evergreen trees stamp from the Campology stamp set to create the tree tops by stamping 2nd and 3rd and 4th generation tree images with Evening Evergreen ink in the background and then a few 1st generation (full strength ink) in the foreground. This creates depth in the picture.
  • I stamped the biplane image from Soar Confidently on Very Vanilla cardstock in Early Espresso ink and fussy cut the image, mounting it with Dimensionals on the card front.
  • The sentiments, from Soar Confidently, are stamped in Early Espresso and Evening Evergreen ink and die cut using the Tasteful Labels dies and added to the card front using Stampin' Seal.
  • A length of Faux Suede Trim keeps the card closed.

  • The balloon and airship were stamped on Very Vanilla in Early Espresso ink and fussy cut, attaching them to strips of Window Sheet with Seal+. The sentiment is also from Soar Confidently and stamped in Soft Succulent. It's die cut with a Tasteful Label die and mounted similarly on another strip of Window Sheet behind the airship.
  • The inner panels are die cut with the Stitched Rectangle dies.
